People protest everything. Should we always cave to it now?

yes, because we're society that manages by the exception.

this is not a democracy. majority definitely doesn't rule.

just the loudest whiners.

ND, buckle up. you're 'bout to feel the wrath of a scorned society fed up with your bs propagating racial and ethnic inequities, and stereotypes, and it will no longer be tolerated.

start working on your new nick names.

i vote for just plain old "golden domers".

Eh Chief Wahoo is definitely a racist caricature and I can see how native Americans would be offended by it

What I found funny a few years ago is that one of the lead Congressman that suggested that the Redskins change its name was from Oklahoma. The name "Oklahoma" or "okla" "humma" literally translates as "red people." The history is that a Choctaw Chief suggested the name. I believe the Native Americans are divided on whether they believe these names are offensive.

Just think about how much better our defense will be with Peterson/Walker and if we land one of these elite corners. I’m so excited at this possibility. Defense wins championships and Pruitt is going to bring it!

Agreed!

From dumpster fire to elite very soon on defense. I don’t think we’re getting both corners, hopefully we get one. ITS seems to be the most likely today

I know from reading a little about the Redskins name change controversy that it's something like 90% of Native Americans do not want the name changed and Redskins is a very common name for reservations schools team names.

Even one would be solid. I was just thinking that I read that both west coast guys may be a package deal. Just a thought but I wonder if we had another guy that could play safety and then maybe move warrior to safety

No, but tradition shouldn't be reason alone to keep something.

Look, I'm not out waving signs and picketing that it needs to be changed. But the caricature style of the logo is typically used in proganda/political cartoons etc as a way to demean or make fun of whatever subject. So I see the point of the Native Americans

To each his own. I thought he was pretty innocuous myself. But everything is so highly charged and black and white these days.

I feel like I’m living in a George Orwell novel.

I grew up in Montana around Indians (Native Americans). They were in no way offended by any of these mascots, and as a matter of fact the Redskins were almost universally their favorite team. They felt like it was their team.

Also hated the Cowboys lol

That was my take when I lived out there on the rez. Denver was their other team (probably because it was close.) Ones I knew/worked with didn't care one way or another. One guy was upset about the Crazy Horse statue, though. Said they were doing it wrong because Indians don't point with their finger, they use their lips/chin.

Oh man I kinda hope some aspiring Justice Warrior gets a hold of this one and tries to change a state's name since it is offensive. Is there anyone else out there who is kind of hoping that more stuff like this is brought up? The crazier it gets the more people on the fringe are going to start seeing the fallacy of the PC culture. You can already see it heading towards its own demise.

Wife and I got tickets to the recruiting celebration. I'm hoping to be hyped on Walker, Campbell, ITS, Griffin or any combination of the above come Wednesday.

P.S. This is not a bash Butch post but its amazing the talent difference we are competing against at the end of this cycle vs what we were looking at. I believe Pruitt is well respected by his success at all his stops.

Assuming you aren't Native American, of course it seems innocuous to you; it's not insulting to your heritage. Hot take - racially charged mascots simply shouldn't exist. Pick an animal and be done with it.

If you're concerned with Orwellian tendencies in this world, your last problem is people asking other people to just be nice. Maybe let's examine mass surveillance of the American people before you worry about mascots.

There is a certain irony in people who get so upset over football players kneeling during the national anthem accusing other people of being easily-offended PC snowflakes for getting upset at racial caricatures.

Guys, read Hubbs comments today. I like him, and he’s typically been our most reliable source, but he is GRASPING at straws right now.

Have faith, Wednesday the Vols will SHOCK THE WORLD!

These guys have NO idea what is going on behind closed doors!

The problem is that one day the tigers, bears, and dogs will protest, too.

I got the opposite take when I lived in Arizona. The Najaho and Tohono Odham I know arent fans of Native American mascots. But, then again, most of my friends were other academics, so take it for what you will.

The smartest way around this would be for teams to ask Native artists to redo their mascots. A Native artists redid the Chicago Blackhawks mascot and it looked way better than the original. There’s a middle ground there that’s worth pursuing.

I know the prevailing thought is that Hubbs and Co. are not as connected with this staff, but have they put out a “who we think UT finishes with” list?

FTR, Personally, I couldn't care less about kneeling during the NA. I'm a libertarian...I think people can do whatever they want as long as they don't harm others. Legislating morality is stupid.
