I will be on the Isle of Palms in a few weeks. Can't wait.
You're in Memphis and travel all the way to Charleston too? We vacation on IOP as well.
Where do yall stay?
FWIW, the Charleston area and lowcountry in general may be the GOAT for a lot of stuff.
I am very fortunate to have in-laws who have a beach house on IOP. My father in law travelled everywhere in the Air Force but went to The Citadel. He bought after Hurricane Hugo.
I have been at all times of the year for various reasons, but once our two oldest kids started school, we have been leaving the day after they get out. Charleston schools don't get out until after the first week in June, so the beaches aren't crowded. We just added a 4th child a couple of months ago, so I will need patience for this year's drive.
You and I are few and far between in Memphis because people can't believe we go that far. Everyone else heads down to 30A.
Food, beach, golf, history, and I have gotten into their craft beer, too.
Great times.
Edit: I have had to take time off from golf because of 4 kids. But some day, I am going to make the trip down to Kiawah and spend the money to play the Ocean Course. Probably when I am old.
Similar. Our family has a place inside Wild Dunes, so we make the trek every summer for a couple weeks.
Our friends all go to 30A too.

When/if you get one or more of those kids interested in the game it can start back fully. For me it was my daughter in the 8th grade. She lettered 4 years in HS and we still play together at times even if only for 9 holes. Working on the oldest grandson now.
It doesn't get any better than Kiawah for golf IMO. Gorgeous courses that on windy days will eat you alive. It doesn't get much better for a hotel/resort than The Sanctuary either, at least the last time we were there a half dozen years ago. Love how you can get into downtown Charleston in less than 30 minutes, but when you are on island it feels like you are really remote. Bucket list for sure - go.
I'm sort of a self appointed judge on quality shrimp 'n' grits FWIW.It is my role in life to seek out all restaurants that have it on the menu and test. My personal take is that the better ones have pimento cheese grits as their base. I passed the She-Crab soup judging rights on to my son-in-law. Still love it, but getting bored with all the judging responsibilities.

FWIW VolGee and 85SV, I did the 30A back when I lived in NE Arky for a dozen years. Primarily in Destin. Dad always did Ft. Walton for a couple of months in the winter.
That's exactly how my Dad started playing again. He had given it up when my brother and I were young, but he started playing again when I picked it up. That's really cool that your daughter played.
I was never a big shrimp and grits fan until I started going to Charleston. Those shrimp and grits will make you change your mind really fast.
If you ever make it down to HHI, go to Dockside at Skull Creek. On the north end at the marina. The best for this area of the lowcountry IMO. Fresh South Carolina shrimp are so good. Add in the kielbasa, green and red peppers, onions, PM grits and a small swirl of barbecue sauce on top.
My next judging gig will be variations of Eggs Benedict. The Sunday brunches have many different lowcountry types. Tried a Filet (4 oz.) Benedict Sunday. That's now high on the list. My favorite still remains the Crab Cake so far.
Losing the battle of the waistline though. Got to get back to reality and work on that when we get home.
I haven't been in a long time, and I hear it's getting crowded. Some people probably think Charleston is crowded, too, but I know my way around there and know what I want to see.
We may not ever do it again because of the length of the trip, but we went to the northern part of the Outer Banks several years back. I thought it was fantastic as well.

As I see all these predictions and ratings come out for the 2018 college football season, it got me thinking.
We as fans tend to always think the media and pundits underrate the Vols. When was the last time we overachieved as a football program? Like we were predicted to go 6-6 but actually went 8-4 or something like that.
