Bill withdrew his name from consideration and went on record saying he isn't interested-- probably a political ploy to ram FOCUS through since he announced it when he started getting backlash for the bill. He could easily announce he's reconsidering his position "for the good of the university" or have one of his flunkies voted in by his handpicked board.

Bill's already moved into a house and set up residence in Knoxville. A majority on that board are tied into the Haslams, their politics and their business interests. They'll pick DiP's replacement and strengthen their control. No doubt.

Gets it.

We won a battle in the Schiano mess, not a war. The only way we win the war is to elect the right governor along with state reps/senators this fall. That means we need a 15-20% move to the right because Brother Bill still had enough support to do what he wanted. If you are a TN resident/voter, stay in constant contact with your elected representatives. Aunt Bev's termination gives you a perfect opportunity regardless of how you feel about her as a Chancellor.

So HOH hired Davenport because they thought they'd could control her. Helped her with the hiring of Currie and thought they had complete control. Then the outsourcing thing happened, but that's ok because people don't pay as much attention to the university as the do the sports at the university. In their mind still in control. Then SchiaNo happened and they learned she's actually smart enough to listen to more people than the HOH. Then they lost the AD fight. Next their initial Board was destroyed in Congress. So in their mind their embarrassment begins and ends with Davenport?

:good!:

Aunt Bev's the scapegoat for people to see.

HoH is not nearly as strong in charge as they were and want to be again. So they nail a scalp to a tree as a message. Fine, she was their lackey from the start anyway. Vol fans can either sit back and watch, or use it as a good opportunity to engage in another battle.

The fact she is working til July 1 tells me she did nothing to cause the termination. They are simply removing her because she stands in their way.

The reasons the president gave for her firing were so vague and easily verifiable during the interview process. Definitely doesn’t help the PR side of this

Isn't DiPietro retiring soon? He better not be involved in the search for a new Chancellor as an outgoing President. The new President should make the hire.

What a cluster.

The new president is going to be Bill Haslam. That's exactly what they want.

FTR, Joe DiP is part of the problem, not the solution.

And his retirement won't make a nanoparticle of difference.

This is his golden parachute move. Haslam has his retirement all set. Needed him to do it for plausible deniability before Bill takes over.

The Schiano mess isn't the catalyst. It's all about the outsourcing. Follow the money.

They're going to bump her down to faculty and she'll transition out. That's what UT does to mask their tendency to treat people who are politically out of favor like human garbage.

Thanks. Somehow I missed this. Needless to say, I'm a bit skeptical of his sudden lack of interest in the job.

It read as you didn't play nice with the Haslams so I need to get rid of you

Apparently, they booted her out of the building today and placed her on paid leave until she reports for summer session. UT leadership treats people so poorly. No wonder it's getting harder and harder for the university to hire good people.

Does Pruitt not go to fulmer and say phil what the he** is going on ? How am I supposed to sell a recruit when leadership gets fired every 6 months ?

And Phil’s response? You’re looking at the next target.

Fulmer is safe. Newly hired, righted the ship in the midst of chaos, and just signed a 4 year deal. The political ramifications of ousting him anytime in the next two years keep him safe. He’s a celebrity and savior in the public eye to the most prominent sports program in the entire state. Unless he makes a bad boo boo that’s public, he has nothing to worry about.

He's not safe if Pruitt fails, though. And I think he's the last line of defense against the Haslams' incompetence and meddling.
