Bill withdrew his name from consideration and went on record saying he isn't interested-- probably a political ploy to ram FOCUS through since he announced it when he started getting backlash for the bill. He could easily announce he's reconsidering his position "for the good of the university" or have one of his flunkies voted in by his handpicked board.
Bill's already moved into a house and set up residence in Knoxville. A majority on that board are tied into the Haslams, their politics and their business interests. They'll pick DiP's replacement and strengthen their control. No doubt.
So HOH hired Davenport because they thought they'd could control her. Helped her with the hiring of Currie and thought they had complete control. Then the outsourcing thing happened, but that's ok because people don't pay as much attention to the university as the do the sports at the university. In their mind still in control. Then SchiaNo happened and they learned she's actually smart enough to listen to more people than the HOH. Then they lost the AD fight. Next their initial Board was destroyed in Congress. So in their mind their embarrassment begins and ends with Davenport?
:good!:
Aunt Bev's the scapegoat for people to see.
HoH is not nearly as strong in charge as they were and want to be again. So they nail a scalp to a tree as a message. Fine, she was their lackey from the start anyway. Vol fans can either sit back and watch, or use it as a good opportunity to engage in another battle.

Apparently, they booted her out of the building today and placed her on paid leave until she reports for summer session. UT leadership treats people so poorly. No wonder it's getting harder and harder for the university to hire good people.
Fulmer is safe. Newly hired, righted the ship in the midst of chaos, and just signed a 4 year deal. The political ramifications of ousting him anytime in the next two years keep him safe. Hes a celebrity and savior in the public eye to the most prominent sports program in the entire state. Unless he makes a bad boo boo thats public, he has nothing to worry about.
