Also, in my opinion, if Casey Clausen isn't 2nd or 3rd on your list, you're wrong.

Heath Shuler should be RIGHT BEHIND Manning on every list involving any UT QB list. Sort out who you will after him and Manning but, they're a VERY distant third.

Without Manning, he's the best QB in the program's history. Period.

I don't think it was just him. I think it was some supposed Vol fans, too.

Of course...the usual opposing team apologists...but I don’t factor them. damn likes to EDUCATE us on why our eyes aren’t reliable and how he’s a resource to be valued and trusted. :wink2:

Hence why I didn’t say who had the better career (clearly Manning), was better in the NFL (even more clearly Manning), or the better stats (clearest Manning).

Shuler was ahead of his time though, and maybe the best athlete who has played QB at UT (TRob is the only one close, and more of the total package running and throwing than Dobbs by far).

No clue what this is, but anything over 6 + a bowl is house money this season

Basically, he bases everything off of numbers. He looks at recruiting and the Vols are top 25 in talent, really top 15 which is why they are in his tier 3. Then he grades the coordinators based upon their numbers. Vols have a highly ranked DC (I'm assuming he's factoring Pruitt in here and not just Sherrer).

His conclusion then, based upon numbers alone judged by coaching and talent, is that we have the talent and the coaching to compete for a national championship but not win it.

Showing your age again Hank...

Manning obviously ahead of dobbs and probably Schuler. But i would argue that dobbs had a lot less around him and a lesser headcoach. I think the case could be made that dobbs meant more to his team than any other player in school history.

Take manning off our team and we win a title. Take dobbs off and we have the worst season in school history. (Obviously they are more variables but still)

Shuler was a smaller Tim Tebo, imo. Very tough runner, very good game knowledge, and a decent passer.

Tebow had a close to as many rush attempts per season as Shuler had yards rushing on the one year he had more than 75 yard rushing on the season

Here's Shuler's only season where he rushed the ball seemingly at all vs fairly average Tebow... (not the just-silly Sophomore 23TD season)

GP ATT Y Y/A TD
Heath Shuler 11 105 286 2.7 11
Tim Tebow 14 217 910 4.2 14

The other two years Shuler had 24 and 73 total rushing yards respectively...

I used to love me some Shuler... he's the 2nd best QB Tennessee has ever had... but you guys are getting silly here haha... Also Shuler had a WAY better arm than Tebow

Obviously a huge talent differential...so not comparable. I’d say that Manning made whichever WR’s he worked with top level.

Tyler Bray had elite arm talent. Could sling it all over the field.

We don’t need a running QB in this offense. We need a QB who can, you know, throw the football.
What year do you think this is? 2013? Dobbs can throw the ball well enough to be drafted in the fourth round. Dude threw for over 7000 yards

I'm not talking about statistics. I'm talking about his toughness. Shuler was never afraid to lower his shoulder and get that extra yard. His toughness was one of his best attributes. As to arm strength, I'm not sure. All I have to go on is tebow dropping dimes on us several times.
