It is. Stop star gazing. Butch didn’t recruit many SEC caliber athletes and we’re implementing two new system with a first time HC, OC, and DC. Go into this season with no expectations. There are going to be awesome moments and there are going to be moments where people say “Pruitt just isn’t a head coach”. The season will be more enjoyable if you go in with the mindset of watching the program and team get better each week

I disagree

May just be how you translated his comments, but if he said Tennessee was the “hardest rebuild he has seen,” that is being dramatic. There have been other tough rebuilds. We don’t have the depth, but we have some playmakers.

Hyperbole is a good indication that grade of slaw should be taken.

Kawhi: “I don’t want to play in San Antonio, please trade me to the Lakers”

Spurs: “We are literally deporting you to another country. Suck it.”

2016:
10 win talent
QB play was there
Confidence was there
Coaching wasn't there

Result 8 wins

2017:
8 win talent
QB play wasnt there
Confidence was lost
Coaching wasn't there

Result 4 wins

2018:
7-8 win talent

QB play must be there

Confidence must be there. Must beat West Virginia or Florida for that to happen

Coaching is unknown

QB play and confidence are the difference between 4 and 7-8 wins this year imo

The roster argument and the no coaching experience are two different arguments. Sure, we may have a few times where the coaches make some mistakes, but the roster has players. There are SEC level athletes at almost every position.
I’ve gotta see it to believe it. I think there are some SEC level players on offense like callaway, Jennings, smith, DWA, and Chandler (is Pruitt ignoring him as motivation or does he not like him as a scheme fit?). My questions are on defense. I rewatched games from last year (yes I am a masochist) and it reminded me how far away we are. Our run defense was absolutely pathetic. I trust these coaches but that’s more for the long term fix than short term. We shall see this fall though

Haha so spiteful and awesome. I am pretty sure that is the farthest away from LA they could have traded him. He deserved it though.

We're better off this year than last year. We're bigger, stronger, faster and the players are more invested. Even with the inexperience, we're much better coached. We play some teams that are clearly better than us, but we also play 3 cupcakes and 3-5 average teams. UT is an out-of-favor team and the media has a downside bias-- as do some UT fans. I'm glad the coaches are keeping things quiet-- no point feeding the media.

Hardest rebuild he has seen? Guess he wasn't around during the last few coaching hires in Knoxville. The roster is way better than most of these talking heads believe. They look at the 4-8 record and form an opinion based off that alone. He's wrong.

This...I would ask...1) how are we any different than Florida who by the way we’ve been better than for the last 5 years we just had inept coaching. 2) when is the last time Cole has been around the team? 3) what is he basing off of? Recruiting rankings would say talent so is it the 4-8 record with massive injuries and lame duck coach?

Seems the easy thing to do is say Tennessee will suck and be 5-7 and be fine with saying I was wrong and Pruitt is a heck of a coach if we go 8-4 than to say 8-4 now

But but scvol said media knows no wrong

Listening to Cole Cubelic’s blistering critique of our roster on Josh Ward’s podcast this morning makes me dial back my expectations. When literally everyone in the media is telling you your team stinks and has a bad roster, you have to listen.

5.5 is a good betting line for wins this season. The difference between 5-7 and 7-5 will be a handful of plays. Any result outside of that range will be a shocker. And 7 wins alone may be a shocker.

Cubelic called Tennessee right now the hardest rebuild he has seen when you account for where the program is roster wise, where our opponents are and where our fanbase’s expectations are.

My long standing view since the Schianomo is that Pruitt has no honeymoon. This fall will be interesting to say the least.

I like reading Cole but its just another data point. In 2016 preseason he was pouring cold water on our prospects and last year he was pumping up our prospects.

I'm optimistic for the season based on my assumption that the culture this year will be night and day different from the last couple of years. I think we have talent and maybe lack depth in areas. I'm interested in how we fair at the skill positions on offense and at cornerback on defense. I expect the line of scrimmage will be vastly improved this year, on both sides of the ball. My impression is that the staff genuinely wants to win now and if our players embrace that same attitude I think we can make some noise. jmo.

People did the exact same thing last year lol. I said we would start 3-4. However, I thought JG would come in and save the season by finishing 4-1. He may have had a chance if the team hadn’t already been decimated by injuries

I know y’all hate NBA but boss move by pop and the spurs sending kwahi to Canada and stealing derozan after he demanded to be on the west coast.

There has been tougher rebuilds at Tennessee specifically in the last decade alone

I think this is spot on. Based on what we saw on the field, not potential.

Now, JP has come in and changed some positions, changed weight, changed attitudes, etc.

Let’s see if it translates to wins on the field.

He has the chance to change the narrative but for me what is stated above is spot on until we step on the field.
