Question for y’all parents of HS players. This is my son’s first year playing (he is JV this year), is it normal for school’s to do combines before fall camp? I think it pretty high speed.

I often think the same. That game and the florida game last year derailed us and that is the sign of bad coaching unfortunately.

I agree about the UF game last year, but by the A&M game and after the team was completely decimated by injury...with all those defensive injuries, plus the injuries and the Hurd fiasco on offense, the season was going to be a disaster after that.

Our high school does strength and conditioning all summer long, "optional" football camps (including the middle school kids) before the official practices start, and then they roll into the regular practices.

Recruiting to MSU has never been easy. Jackie Sherrill did it the best by exploiting the JUCO's year after year, until they went to the SECCG versus us.

Mullen recruited as well as can be expected there, adding some very talented players along the way. Nick Fitzgerald might be drafted higher than Dak. Chris Jones is a highly thought of DL. There have been quite a few players under DM drafted, and that will continue this upcoming draft.

I think he'll be fine at Florida. If/when he ever gets it going, they'll be a legitimate threat. There's a lot of hate for "Mehlen" on here but he changed the culture of that program and left it significantly better than what he inherited. No one can deny that he did an excellent job at a school and program that is, historically, one of the worst SEC programs.

If this were the case, why is Moorhead recruiting better? The general sense I get down here is that Mullen got kids who 1) were going to go to MSU anyways or 2) got paid (i.e. Leo Lewis). Otherwise, he was kind of awkward and abrasive, and didn't like recruiting. He did, however, create a football culture with an edge and a big chip on the shoulder.

However, Moorhead is already recruiting above and beyond what Mullen ever did, even coming off the season where they were ranked #1 for a stretch and had Dak Prescott. A buddy of mine coaches football down here, and said a large part of it is that Moorhead is a pure ball coach who connects a lot better with high school coaches.

Maybe it's because I'm an alum of UT, and I teach as MSU, but I see some parallels in that Mullen seems like a Butch Jones personality that could actually coach, and that Cohen (the former baseball coach and current MSU AD) and Fulmer (former coach) went out and hired the best ball coaches they could find and weren't interested in gimmicks and slogans.

3&out hour 2 Wednesday has me convinced that Mullen is Butch Jones 2.0 at Florida. He’ll be terrible there
