Sorry, my jaw dropped from all the rationalization in that post before making it to the end. Granted, you did mention that, not that it makes your post any less absurd.

Okay, so let's hash through it.

No candidate is perfect.

In a HC candidate, I value X's and O's, recruiting ability (largely tied into knowing the lay of the land around you, ie being a southern guy), player development, assistant coaching hires, AND experience.

Yes, CJP lacks HC experience. But winning big at two of his previous stops (the other stop being 10 wins per year for two years under Richt) makes up for some of it. Having Fulmer as our AD makes up for some more of Pruitt's inexperience. And I'm fully expecting CJP to make some rookie mistakes, I just hope they're not too painful.

So hopefully with this post, I've clarified that it's okay to prioritize some traits over others, and that there's no such thing as the perfect HC candidate.

tl;dr Pruitt's strengths outweigh his inexperience.

You good now?

It’s all well and good, and obviously there’s nothing really worth disputing in this post.
But in your original one, I don’t think the statement that none of the coaches you named fit us like Pruitt is anything but blind rationalization.

Okay, so let me ask you:

Out of the candidates I mentioned, who's a better fit for Tennessee than Pruitt?

Would you have been comfortable shilling out $10M/year to Gruden? Would you have been okay with the inevitable FCS or G5 loss that Mike Leach can't avoid? Would it have been acceptable in your opinion to wait until December/January to start reeling in our entire class of 3*'s like what's happening with UCLA?

It's okay to have differing opinions. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, no such thing as a "correct" opinion. I just don't know what you're crabbing about.

Would still have been happy with Leach.

they were talking about fit at first. They talked about how mullen has a lot of butch jones qualities. He said at media days something like “no coach has ever gone on the road against their former team in the same year.” that’s very jonesy of a statement. Then talked about him trying to act cool, even tho he’s not, with the jordan’s and wake boarding. They said that the pressure at florida will get to home and he’ll be out. He won’t fit there with the preemptive excuses and the antics. He’ll be in a pressure cooker that basically caused spurrier and meyer to quit and mac and muschamp to fold cause they couldn’t handle it.

They also questioned his recruiting down there because he isn’t a fit and he is struggling. They also talked about how he’s inconsistent and a slow starter. Florida won’t tolerate that.

But they also questioned his coaching ability. Only time mullen ever did any good was with dak. Is mullen really a qb whisperer or is dak just an extreme athlete and talent? He doesn’t have a good qb in florida and no one who fits that dak/tebow style. Without one how good will mullen be, especially since his cupboard isn’t stacked like the media act like.

They made great points.

I went back and looked at Clemson’s classes because I was bored. Leading up to their national championship, their classes were as follows in the 247 composite:

2016- 11th, 1 5*, 11 4*, 7 3* avg 90.3
2015- 9th, 3 5*, 9 4*, 12 3*, avg 89.12
2014- 16th, 0 5*, 10 4*, 9 3*, avg 88.69
2013- 15th, 1 5*, 10 4*, 11 3*, avg 88.46

That isn’t that impressive. There are no top 3 classes there and their highest avg is only 90. I think the big difference between them and us is that they hit on guys and we missed on a lot. Thats why Pruitt’s evaluations are so important rather than star rankings. They also developed those guys, Butch didn’t. We also know that they have an easier schedule than we do year in and year out. But they still beat Bama for a championship and shut out Ohio State.

We will recruit better than this imo while Pruitt is here. Currently Clemson is 10th with 18 players with an avg of 88.83. We are 18th with 14 players for an avg of 89.67. Our average is currently better than theirs.

We do have to beat Bama and Georgia will be tough, but there’s no reason talent wise that we shouldn’t be as good or better than Clemson if we recruit like this. I think any of us would be happy with that.

I also think Pruitt will bring a physicality that we haven’t seen in a long time.

Let’s not be fooled. Much like auburn had Newton, Dabo had Watson. The only areas they were elite outside of QB was DL. They recruited and coached great on DL. Solid at WR as well but they’ve always done well there.
