Good post. I didn't realize Pruitt had say in that strength coach hiring

I wonder who really made the Pruitt hire at UGA. Wouldn’t be surprised if Pruitt was forced on Richt. Either way, Pruitt wanted to do things the Saban/Jimbo way and Richt obviously has his way. It’s no wonder they butt heads while coaching together. Murray/Pollack probably see Pruitt as the start of the downfall of Richts tenure at UGA so they felt the need to bash Pruitt. Given the way the UGA program is trending under the “Saban way” of Smarts running the program, I’d say Pruitt was correct in his views of UGA while he was there. Pollack and Murray are just butthurt that Pruitt was right.

Yeah. I don't know how you can hear that and believe he ever ran an offense before.

It actually shows that he knew the offense well and could tell anything that was adjusted or added. He just sounded like an idiot when he explained things😂

But the longer this conversation continues the more convinced I am that he was involved.
People familiar to the situation said as much to me (and Hank apparently). Chaney ran different offenses way more than the 1 similar one.
Saying the 1 similiar is proof and all the others were the outliers, is a grasp at very best.

Everything else has been "I don't like him so therefore he's not allowed to be good at anything" arguments.

In all seriousness, if a person becomes depressed when they drink, they need to stop drinking quickly.

Missouri did win the east the first few years they were in it. They are a decent program. We should be better than them but theoretically they are set up to challenge for the east this year. They have the best QB in the division. Return their whole OL basically And if dooley clicks with lock they could be really tough offensively.

I’m just glad we have them at home

Also joe tiller was the head coach at Purdue when Chaney was there. He turned Purdue around big time. He had that mike leach reputation where he kinda of brought the spread passing system to a new level.

I said I liked Dooley so not sure about the last part of yer post. There is almost no evidence of him being good at coaching even though I like him.

As for yer other point about Chaney. The one similar one was how he was before he got to Tennessee. It was his only real oc job before. Then he and Kiffin converted it to the pro style offense he ran here and it continued under Dooley. I don't like Kiffin but would probably give him more credit for the offense we had with Dooley than I would give to Dooley. He left here and went to Arkansas where bielema wanted a conservative Wisconsin style offense. So no I don't think my point about Purdue was a stretch. I think its a stretch to say the ones after are the comparison we should make. He never had those styles before he got here so how is that relevant to what he did here?

I'm sure Dooley was involved as far as wanting an aggressive type prostyle offense that Chaney was already running. Which is probably why he kept him instead of bringing in someone he could mold an offense with. He probably helped implement it too. I have doubts about how much of the offense he designed and I'm almost positive he never called plays before.

How are you defining involved?

He’s always been credited as a good position coach. That didn’t appear to be the case with the Cowboys. He doesn’t need permission to be capable at his brand new role and neither does those who question his acumen.

Chaney’s offense has drastically changed depending on the head coach.

Purdue - HC Joe tiller was a spread offense innovator.
UT - HC kiffin was a pro style, run heavy.
UT - Dooley Air raid
Arkansas- Bart - Run heavy ball control
Pittsburgh- Narduzzi balanced ball control
Georgia- Kirby - run heavy ball control

Looking at that, one could say he was actually very limited in his overall input or for ever having “his offense”. The fact that the offense drastically changed at Tennessee under different head coaches is a dead give away that he is basically never running the show.

I can definitely see that. Especially with UGAs AD saying that Kirby showed them "how to be big-time". Seems like the administration there wasn't happy with Richt the last few years

Or that he tailors the offense to his boss’s preferences...like EVERY OC? :hmm:

Ok so let me get this straight....

Dooleys best thing he did here, according to you, was get out of the way and let Chaney run the offense.

But now he tailors the offense to what the Head coach wants.

Ok bud.

Are you saying that what a person WANTS qualifies them to perform a duty? Ok “BUD”...I’ll be performing your next heart valve replacement.

Maybe it’s that Chaney is competent enough to set up his own offense but can also tailor it to fit his head coach’s vision. Maybe Dooley just didn’t know what he wanted on offense so Chaney picked for him based on what he thought was best for our talent.

Show me another OC/DC that has been under 5 different head coaches and each time their side of the ball looks night and day different.

You don’t give any credit to dooley for the offense here, fine it was all Chaney.

Was it all Chaney when his offense was just so so at Arkansas or at times at Georgia? You can’t have it both ways great coordinators leave their mark on a certain side of the ball. You can’t say that for Chaney because you don’t even know what his mark is.

So Kirby Smart can call offensive plays? :)

What is Chaney’s offense? Was it the great ones at Purdue and Tennessee? Or the average ones at Georgia, Arkansas, and Pitt?

Not going to be involved in a debate the drags on for pages.

On one hand I have two players, 1 on the sideline, 1 in the game.
On the other hand I have posters who say "because I don't think so".

If anybody shows up with something more convincing, I'll join back in. Until then, it's not even close.

My not so bold prediction. Losing Heupel (sp?) is going to hurt Mizzou a great deal. Dooley may be very good (I doubt it) but there will be a dropoff because Heupel was great as an OC.

How do you define dooley's level of involvement? Did he design the offense and scheme. Did he draw the plays? Did he call them. Did he plan how to implement it? Did he lead the meetings?

When urban got hired at bowling green he asked Chaney for advice on his offense. Chaney was OC at Purdue for 8 years. That is a pretty significant amount of time to develop his true identity and philosophy.
A lot of people noticed in the championship game this year that he seemed to revert to his roots. They ran a spread air raid type offense at Purdue. Under Dooley he ran prostyle with spread air raid elements. Kiffin called plays when he was here which is why it looked different from Kiffin to Dooley. Everything after is irrelevant to this debate.

You make a nice summary but your conclusion is way off. I would conclude that Chaney is flexible enough to scheme whatever the HC wants. I just don't see how you can think that Dooley ran the offense. Chaney was a good OC then and he is a good OC now. It was smart of Dooley to back away and let him do his job.

Why is there never any middle ground on Volnation? 😂

Maybe Dooley wanted a certain style offense and he and Chaney worked together on it? Maybe Dooley had input, and Chaney called the plays.

We agree that dooley wasn’t the primary playcaller right?
