I would have tried also, so it's fair to say I believe it was a mistake. But let's say we are right and it was a bad coaching decision, I never expected a rookie head coach to come out and be flawless in these calls.
Rookies at any job/position ARE going to make rookie mistakes. Some don't want to accept that and try to judge his worth already but it's foolish.

He may fall flat on his face, he may be the next elite or anything in between. but anyone claiming to know at this point, is putting entirely too much trust in their own evaluation skills. And I'm talkin d4h level here.

Oh yea I’m saying that as a compliment honestly. For a first time head coach to be over halfway through the year and he’s really only had one “bad” game management situation is pretty amazing tbh.

Yeah, sorry, that wasn't directed at you.
I was just agreeing with you and commenting on all the posts I've read since last night.

What matters now is recruiting. That's the path forward. Just focus on getting the best players we can bring in and try to get as many as possible to sign early and become EEs so they can get a head start on S&C and participate in spring practice. We'll be playing a lot of FR next year so the sooner they're on campus, the quicker they'll develop.

First time all year i questioned Pruitt game management. End of 1st half, near midfield, with line 40 seconds and a TO... you need to at least try and get in FG range.

Coaches do it all the time. I'm not saying it was the right call, but it is a very, very common one.

It's not like we can go out and pick up a QB On wavers . Their playing the best QB we have. Better oline will help a lot next year.

And you honestly do not know that since the one they picked up on waivers has only played meaningful minutes when JG was hurt against Bama during which time he lifted the team and led them to two TD's. We will never know if the best QB is playing if they do not play anybody else. To say he is the best is to place 100% blind faith in a new, unproven staff that has won only 3 of 8 games this season. Many of us have learned from the past decade not to have blind faith in coaches.

Let KC start against Charlotte and see what he can do with this O over the course of a whole game.[/QUOTE]

I thought of this, too. Let JG recover from the beatings and get KC quality snaps.

After a restless sleep:

We had the game won: up 21-9 after our first possession in the 3rd. We just couldn’t put on more steam.

We played hard.

By far and away the one thing I am MOST upset about is taking a knee before half. That was weak. That was gutless. That was not playing to win.

That is the first time I have seen that from this staff. I didn’t like it.

And what would all of you say if we threw a pick? If chandler cuts to the left on his run we would have been more agressive but he did not.

I think you can get a decent view through Pruitt's eyes by watching his decisions. I knew the second he was ok with kneeling before the half, we were likely losing the game. I don't think he is risk averse either. He's displayed gambling many times which I agreed with most of those gambles. At the end of the half told me he was content, which is never good.

Also, I thought for the most part Helton called a decent game. We were killing them with the screens and our run game was effective. Then SC said no more screens. At that point helton had no answers.

Defensively, SC decided to just test our will and play big boy football. We failed the test, miserably.
Overall, I think we have average to below average talent with coaches that have potential but for the most part have a lot of growing up to do.

The only win I feel confident about is Charlotte, after that I don't see us beating MZ, or KY, and Vandy is doubtful. All are playing decent or good football and we are not.

I'm feeling like we might make a bowl in 2019. Recruiting should be our focus as I think it is CJPs. I think Pruitt's goal this year was more about installing his system and culture this year at the expense of winning. Not that he doesn't want to win, it's just not at the top of his priorities this year. He knows wins next year and beyond are more important than this year.

I think we win one of those three and Charlotte and get to 5 wins which most of the national experts picked us to do. Beginning to think they do know more than us with the orange shaded glasses. If we somehow get to six, then like a few of them said, CJP should be coach of the year. Recruit well and we will be making progress. Georgia and Smart are not as good as most thought them to be and Florida is not as bad as we thought they would be but not as great as a top 10 team either. Kentucky will lose a lot this year as well as Mizz. If CJP does what he is suppose to do with recruiting then we will get there and the others are not as far ahead of us than what we all thought after the Florida game.

The fans that jump off the bandwagon are also the ones that jump back on quickly. They are not concerned with losing fans this year. Pruitt/Fulner know that wins and losses are down the pecking level of importance this year. Culture, system, and recruiting are more important at this stage. Jmo

But it still hurts to lose.

Would love to see that. Maybe then 85% of our completions won’t be screens or flares.

Try watching Stanford highlights. Had a better line and a better ground game. He is mediocre at best. There’s a reason his coach ran him off. There’s a reason why 9 weeks into the season, JG is playing ahead of him.

I actually think they cared a lot about winning this year. They expected to make a bowl, use progress as a recruiting springboard and build from there. There may not be much concern about losing casual fans, but UT cares very much about donor support.

Everyone expected us to struggle this year, with this roster and the mess that Butch left behind.

But now that we have lost in a close game on the road in the SEC, against a team that we were 9 point dogs to, Pruitt stinks apparently.

Everyone is losing their minds.

Cannot agree more. We are night and day different from the start of the year. Been saying it all year, gotta have the horses.
