So a HC is free from receiving any criticism unless we lose to a far inferior team? Ok got it.

We should be content with blowing 12 point leads because we only lost by 3!! :)

Yea I will too, even if he’s a quarter of Saban. I never said he won’t be, or that he’s a bad coach. Breaking news: Sometimes good head coaches make costly mistakes 😱
It is absolutely ok to criticize what you think are poor decisions. You can definitely do that and still support and believe in the staff. I think you were reasonable with your criticism. I think it is just as warranted as saying JG holds the ball way too long but I hope he learns to get rid of it sooner as he continues to develop.

You mean Tyson Helton, right?

No, I mean Clay. They are 4-4, and likely to lose another one. he just fired his OL coach and took over play calling. Basically he's in hail mary mode trying to save his job. If USC makes a move, I think there is a decent chance the Vols would try and find a spot for him on the staff. I think Tee is out at USC after this year either way, but I don't think it's likely he would find a spot on the staff here.

To elaborate on why I think it would make sense to find a spot for Clay Helton on our staff (in a scenario where he is canned at USC), he obviously knows the system we are trying to implement, and he coached at Memphis for roughly 10 seasons. Double whammy -- could recruit an area that we desperately need to do well in, and has intricate knowledge of the offense we hope to run here.

Chryst is and has been one play away from starting all year, with this OL, he is absolutely a great pick up. It is absolutely amazing that JG has taken the beating he has and is still functioning. The dude is made out of rubber...it really is almost miraculous how tough and physically resilient he is.
Again, I get that. But to me, simply getting playing time does not necessarily equal value. If Chryst comes in, we’re as likely to win or lose a game as we would be if Will McBride got in the game. Just my opinion of course, but I’d rather have that scholarship to use on a 4 year defensive end/offensive tackle/running back/etc.

He wouldn't come here for anything less than OC in your scenario. We ain't getting rid of Helton. The only offensive coach we would get rid of after this year is Weinke and I don't think Pruitt will get rid of him

Is this really a thing? Have people mentioned this?

Also...completely unrelated...mental illnesses seem to spike around the holidays.

Speaking of holidays. It's time for a top 3 list...

Top 3 favorite holidays:

1. Thanksgiving - My 3 favorite things are the main focus; Family, Football and Food. Although I don't like turkey that much, bring me ham on Thanksgiving AND Christmas. Turkey is meh (save the speech turkey fanboys). So much college and pro football on that day and all weekend, leftovers, friends and family, booze, crisp cold weather. It's a holiday that's impossible to beat.

2. St. Patrick's Day - The last 5 years or so I've thrown a St. P's party at my house and it gets better each year. I like to host parties and drinking beer, whiskey and eating potatoes is right in my wheelhouse. Plus it's always right around March madness which is the 2nd greatest sporting event, behind the CFB regular season of course.

3. 4th of July - We get to celebrate this great country of ours with food, beer and fireworks. Almost as good as Thanksgiving. If only there were football.

I think we'd have an extremely higher chance of winning a game with Chryst than McBride. No offense to McBride.

My favorite holiday is anything that gets me away from the Turds (God love them)

Clay may survive just based on they have a freshman QB. Not sure why he wasn't calling plays anyway. Tee is not someone I'd want calling plays. Tee is a guy that would actually be a better HC than OC. He is a leader and great recruiter not X and O guy

I think that’s true. You want him as the face of the program and lead dog. Much like Fulmer was at his best with Cutcliffe calling plays.

I wouldn’t mind Tee as a RB’s coach and recruiting coordinator.

I’ve been adamant that I don’t think he’s a good play caller. However, I was impressed the other night. Hopefully we can continue that pattern

I feel confident saying that playcallimg is the best area a inexperienced coach can improve in. Hopefully we are seeing him progress at a high rate
