You really think so?
I think he could bring a lot of experience and help this staff a lot.
Mac wouldn't be as bad a hire as some would think. he just has a certain perception given how the FL deal went down. he didn't make that offense better, that's for sure.

that said, he was a pretty good OC at Bama, and did good things at Co. State.

he's not at the top of my list by any means, and as for recruiting, i dont' think your OC has to be a great recruited, he just has to be able to coach.

FL aside, i don't think he's a bad OC candidate either.

now, that said, i do hope we don't have to get that far down the list........lol.

"He could hire someone today. But it may be next week. Or January. We'll see. Stay tuned, and remember to pay your dues, 9.99, thank ye."
Hubbs
Some of you guys can keep complaining and throwing out the lame "that'll be $9.99" stuff but he's reporting what he knows, what he can share and when, and that info changes. Recruiting is fluid. Coaching searches are fluid. Fact is, he's more connected than anyone around this program, he's been covering UT for decades, simply the best there is. And if you've paid any attention over the years you'd know that is a fact.

I agree a good coach adapts his scheme to fit his players/talent, but I sort of feel there are tough circumstances at play here. When OLine is this much of a liability, I would imagine its tough to scheme around without just totally changing the system you want to run and recruit to.
I think if you have a goal of one style or another, you implement it over time, not install it immediately despite not having the tools at your disposal to run it. My biggest take was the predictability of our offense. We never made the other team think. That makes it difficult to execute anything. We never counter punched. When a defense came up to stop the wr screen to the flat because they knew it was coming, we never took advantage of them over playing, we ran the play anyway despite the fact and when it didn't work we blamed it on execution. Good defensive coordinators punish you for tendencies. Good offensive coordinators punish defensive coordinators for keying on tendencies. We never punished defensive coordinators for anything.

It's true that you can point to poor execution for many failures on O this season. The problem with that line of think in, in my opinion, is when you are so predictable your execution has to be perfect. When the D doesn't know where it's coming from, it causes them to have to think. Thinking causes them to pause ever so slightly before choosing which WR to cover, whether to take inside path to the QB or the outside, whether to rush the passer or to fall back and cover the back out of the backfield. This offense never challenged the defense to have to think.

I agree with this. We can do worse but I’d prefer not to go that low on the list. I’ll be in “wait and see” if Mac is hired

I’ve let it known that I would not be a fan, but I cannot day ahead of time it’s a bad hire. Honestly, it’s hard to say that if any realistic candidate.

Lol... I know it worked out, but do you remember Butch’s national search and he digs DeBord out of the Olympic swimming Dept of Michigan! 😂. Can’t be worse that that for the optics

UT fans just don’t like anybody in the media lol

If it is Friend then we are toast and we will be in another coach's search in a couple years!
Ah unless Pruitt hires Bozo the clown as his new OC I'm probably gonna get behind anybody. Folks just have to trust that he'll make the right choice. He knows better what they need better than anyone on here.

nah, he'd be fine. he's very experienced, coached in this league, knows the landscape, and what the challenges are as far as the type of defense you're gonna face in this league.

there are much worse hires to be made that Mac. some of us would just have to get past teh horse teeth, shark lover personna........lol.

Hubbs and I are likely family. My stepdad is a Hubbs, and we’re all in Knoxville.

I am not saying anything bad about Hubbs but imo info isn't going to come from
The tenn side this time until Pruitt let's it
He still has to run what he’s doing by Fulmer. UT has to contact the prospective candidates’ school to make sure they are allowed to talk, which assistant AD’s handle. The UT accounting department has to track the expenses of Pruitt as he goes to specific locations, buys food, and stays at hotels to interview these guys.

The stuff gets around pretty quickly and pretty easily. And every person at each step knows they can call Hubbs.

i think the most telling thing about that blurb you posted was the fact it's not lost on Pruitt how big of a hire this is. i think that's important, and good, for how this will be handled ultimately. i think he wants to hire somebody that he can turn the offense over to, and basically walk away so he can manage the program, and spend more time with the defense, cause that's what he wants to do.

i think it annoyed the crap out of him that he felt he needed to get involved in the offense at all. had to bring tyson out of the press box. had to get involved in drills. tells me that he at least wasn't satisfied with the way he was managing the offense at times.

eithier way, i think it's also important that we have a good teacher as OC. and we all know Freeze's past issues, but i've watched a couple of those "coaching session" broadcasts of big games on ESPN...and Hugh has been a part of a couple of them, and it's pretty apparent the guy knows his stuff, just listening to him talk football, breaking down the game they're watching, with 4-5 other coaches.

kick the tires on Freeze definitely. but i'm not gonna be mad if it's Chip Lindsey. and i think if i had my pick, it'd probably be a close one between Enos and Freeze.

Lmao....well I will take that to da bank because if there is one thing I am sure of it is that you have extensive knowledge of how good he would do as OC at Tennessee. #stonecoldlock #betthemortgage
