We need for GT to hire a good coach/elite recruiter. UGA's emergence as an SEC powerhouse over the last decade has coincided with and been allowed by GT's decision to switch to the triple option and not recruit the elite players in the state. By way of example, GT has only been recruiting 3-4 of the top 100 players in the state of GA over the last decade. Yes, a stronger GT recruiting presence may impact Tennessee too, but it will will really serve as a check on UGA's dominance in what has become one of, if not the greatest recruiting state in the country.

👋

He’s an overrated recruiter and seems to be living off two wins vs. Alabama in our fans’ minds. However, this place was universally against hiring Kevin Sumlin although he had the same credentials.
An overrated recruiter?!?!? He literally got some of the biggest guys in the country to come to Oxford, Mississippi. Ole freaking Miss. Come on man. Ridiculous. He's dirty and duplicitous as hell, but don't be delusional.

He also had that same Ole Miss team as a national contender for multiple years, and basically two of their best seasons in basically 50 years. Come on man.

I like that Freeze is an experienced play caller and has his own offense to run. Something that matters to me that could be getting overlooked, is the fact that if he’s hired, he’s here for at LEAST 2 years, maybe 3. He needs to prove himself to the world. All other candidates could be up for HC positions next year and we’d be doing this all over again. JMO.

I'm so sick of hearing about Hurd and what he did at friggin' Baylor. Great. Go get drafted. whoopee. Still a quitter and ancient history.

He made the correct decision being a "quitter".

Knowing how much people talk about how poorly Butch handled player expectations and the toxicity of locker rooms during his tenure, I don't think you can blame any players.

He’s not going to be able to do the stuff here on the recruiting trail that he did at Ole Miss.

I’m not saying we’re clean but they were as dirty as it gets.

And the hooker stuff is going to hurt him.

I mean he had pretty good success there other than the Alabama wins. Won a Sugar Bowl there for the first time in 40 something years.

Yes you can easily blame anyone quitting in the middle of the season

No blame after though

You can when you refuse to go back in a game. You play alongside your team even if you don't like the coaches. That's quitting on your "brothers." I will never excuse that.

Two wins against Alabama- one with Bo Wallace. Went to a Sugar Bowl from the West.

He is what he is as a person, and I know someone who had him as a teacher. Some don't like him. But he's proven to be a very good (great?) offensive coach. He doesn't have to actively recruit because his offense will generate interest. UT doesn't have to do what OM did to allure recruits; just do what UT does. I think it would be a great hire.

Amid the coaching search, I actually threw Sumlin out there. But, I was on the Mehlin train, too.
Well what did that person say about him as a teacher?

So is he not going to be able to do the same thing here or is he overrated? As usual, get your lame story straight. Get outta here with that nonsense. We have Jeremy Pruitt as our HC. You think Pruitt is a choir boy?

No one cares about anything if you win. It's time to win.

Kind of surprised by that. He got better every year at Ole miss. Players love him. He had one bad year.

His recruiting was overrated - or inflated - by his being given the green light to do “whatever it takes” by Ole Miss’ administration and their boosters.

He would not be given the green light here.

I’m not saying it makes him a *bad* candidate. But, to me, it levels the playing field when you compare him with other candidates.

And to be quite honest I don’t think he *helps* Tennessee when he would have to go into a recruits living room and explain why he was buying hookers for recruits.

Arrogant, self-centered, somewhat fake, not a good teacher, and was not surprised one bit with the scandal.

Now, my friend grew up in a die-hard MSU house and graduated from there. But, you have to remember that Freeze was nowhere close to coaching OM when he was teaching at Briarcrest, and I have known him for years.

Cool story bro. He recruited like a boss, put up big time numbers, and won. If we don't hire him, someone else will, and he'll do the same thing there.
