Freeze did not feature a brutal running game at Ole Miss to put it mildly. It was a pass-heavy, scrambling QB-dependent offense that ran at warp speed. Frankly, I don't think Pruitt is too fond of that style, but he's clearly considered Freeze anyway. He'd be foolish not to.He's proven with QBs. I like that. He works in a system that I think Pruitt likes (explosive passing game with brutal running game) at Bama, and probably has to have a pretty good feel for it to get Hurts to evolve the way he did this year. I know Tua is a phenom, but he certainly wasn't handicapped by Enos. The line will work itself out through recruiting, so getting QBs to a point where they are actual field generals is important. Enos might be a good fit for that. We got fixated on Freeze, and that's fine, but his hiring really shouldn't be a pass / fail evaluation on the program. I'd rather deem the hire a failure based on results, not whether it satiated a twitter following that, in general, doesn't really know a gahdang thing about Tennessee football beyond what channel the game is on (not directed at you, but twitter is giving me a headache today).
I got fixated on Freeze because..I KNOW what he can do..the other guys are just shots in the dark to me..good shots in the dark maybe, but still..just hopefuls..He's proven with QBs. I like that. He would probably turn whichever QB we go with into a 3000 passer. In his 3 seasons as OC he produced 2 of them, the third year his QB got hurt. He also hung 30 on Bama and was consistently scoring 30 vs SEC west defenses. Before he showed up Brandon Allen was only throwing for 2000 yards and barely completing 50%. He also hung 31 on UF who had a top 5 defense, only 4 teams scored over 20 vs them that year and 2 of them was us and Bama.I said I wouldn't hate it. I just don't know how much I believe on him, but I didn't feel any different about Lindsey. I know what Freeze can do with an offense..I watched him destroy great defenses with Bo freakin Wallace...let that marinate...
That’s true but I think he had an issue recruiting decent rbs. Personnel dictated what he was able to do with the offense.Freeze did not feature a brutal running game at Ole Miss to put it mildly. He didn't have any issues recruiting any other positions though. RBs simply were never featured in the offense he liked to run. He absolutely had the exact personnel he wanted to run his offense. That’s true but I think he had an issue recruiting decent rbs. Personnel dictated what he was able to do with the offense.
Someone supposedly close to Freeze said in a tweet that Freeze wanted to take the process slowly so that he could see just what options were available for him. This may be the cause of the delay in an announcement. Also they said that Freeze wants to be a head coach as soon as possible. That's his real goal. So he will chose which option he feels gets him to that goal.
Given all that, I'm not sure that it is in our best interest to hire a one and done OC. We need some measure of continuity over the next couple of years. I'm not sure what other option might be the best for the long term.
By the time Freeze has enough success here to jump back into a major head coaching job (or at least one of the caliber that he wants), enough time will have passed that we'll be okay to move on. Kiffin stayed at Bama for three years and had huge success in year one.

If Freeze is in demand for a HC job next year, especially a higher profile one, I'd say it's a safe assumption the offense he coached this coming season was pretty good.Someone supposedly close to Freeze said in a tweet that Freeze wanted to take the process slowly so that he could see just what options were available for him. Freezes success at tenn has nothing to do with him getting a Head coaching job.
See Helton and then today wth the Fsu OC getting hired as evidence
