No, they didn't want to do a 2 for 1. There's a difference.
If you want national respect and relevance you have to take what you are offered. If you win 2 of the games then you can make demands. Otherwise shut up and take the contract.

VQ keeps hinting at this. They keep making those comments that the longer this goes the more likely it is that Pruitt turns and hires someone from within.
Long as we get an ace recruiter like Tee as a consolation I would be good. Not that my being good matters any.

That’s one way to look at it as opposed to an offense that’s been ranked in the 100s two straight years.

In fairness, we're at 121st out of 130. With even a half-way decent OC, odds are strongly indicate the only way to go is up. With a good hire, you can make a jump like Pruitt did with our defense from 80ish to 40ish. That looks good on a resume.

If we hire friend or lebby or osovet as OC at least we know they will be here for a while and not bolt after a single year. And God knows we NEED stability. This OC job is just not a good one at the moment.
it's not a bad one either, if you fancy yourself a good to great OC.

there's no where to go but up...modest improvements will look like moneumental strides.
you're about to bring in a top notch O line class
you're about to bring in a grade A wr and a dynamic RB that's very versatile
you have a pretty outstanding TE room
you have a veteran QB for year 1
you have a veteran and talented WR corp
you have a better than average RB room
you already have a blue chip QB committed in the next class to build around

and you shoudl benefit from an improving defense that should help with complimentary football.

i'm not going to tell you that we're in position to do anything significant post season wise, but to act like there's nothing here to sell is erroneous. the only way this is a bad job is if you aren't paying attention and have no idea what you're walking in to. which isn't going to be the case. Pruitt isn't going to over promise.

uh, it also looks good on the field. which is what matters. they're not hiriing someone that's only going to be here for a year. at least not intentionally.

IMO The main problem with the job is dealing with this awful OL and probably butting heads with Pruitt

I don't think he is either

1) I think he believed Yurcich was going to be the guy but he had a back up plan

2) Sark was/is the backup plan if he doesn't land an NFL job

3) all other names are being vetted in case Sark gets an NFL job
This is the most reasonable and realistic take yet.

the OL is an issue, but you're getting a pretty significant infusion of talent, right now.

as for the pruitt issue, that's just an opinion.....all these coaches are alphas. or at least believe themselves to be. truth is no one knows how good or bad that is. i'll say this, i don't believe for one second Helton was actively calling potential candidates and warning them off the UT oc job. and i also think Helton's skin might have been a little to thin for the style in which pruitt shares his critiques of his performances.

and i'd end by saying that most of hte frustration for pruitt is realizing he made the wrong hire for OC to begin with.

no way he's going about htis search wiht Fulmer in his ear, giving all that advice we're hearing about, and it not come up as to what the working relationship has to be between HC and his coordinators. hence all the talk about "fit".

@Ulysees E. McGill I will concede this however. Within the last week I have been to Chucalissa and to the Buffalo Dance at the Taos Pueblo. Strong deductions there.

I'm not confident. I just don't think he's tossing out open-ended verbal offers, letting guys sit on them a month and thinking he has a done deal.
So either you believe we’re having a hard time closing a deal or that Pruitt is having a hard time making a decision?

Sitting around waiting for one guy for a month with nothing definitive in play would be idiotic. I'm still choosing to believe Pruitt isn't an idiot.

I also highly doubt Fulmer would allow him to do that, too. Remember that Fulmer is helping him through this process as well. I 100% doubt neither Pruitt nor Fulmer are this dumb.

In your opinion is the delay related to Pruitt not knowing what he wanted, or in Pruitt wanting what he can't have? You have posted about the first a few ways without specifically saying it.

That's not what I mean. You build your resume at every job even if you intend to stay there for years and years. However, a ton of OCs eventually want to be HCs. You make a huge jump and awards/recognition and higher pay (even if it's at the same job) tend to follow.

This is what I’m interested in as well. You can’t sell me this thing is moving the way anyone wanted it to when it started. So why do we think that is?
