I don't think he's an idiot. I'm beginning to worry he's finding it hard to sell this position to candidates.
i don't buy that. i get where we are in the grand scheme. but you're walking to an offense that's got a veteran QB, 2 young and talented QB's, an outstanding TE room a better than average RB room, a veteran and talented WR room and your about to sign a grade A OL class, along with a dynamic WR and RB combo coming in.

short term, sure, there's still some of hte same issues, but this isn't a 1 year sell. the future does look good and if you're here for 3 or so years, you're going to have an offense that should be fun to coach.

i just think it's probably pretty obvious that this search got derailed along the way, maybe a couple times. i feel fairly confident in thinking that Pruitt wanted Freeze and Yurcich, and both went sideways for various reasons. i've already said that i'm approaching the time to be worried about this, but the reality is that we did have a line on at least 2 what most of us would call "home run" hires. neither worked out. Freeze was probably more of a pipe dream, given that he didn't wind up at any of the p5 jobs he had been linked to. us, Auburn, Bama or FSU. i believe there's probably more dirt out there, and as more high profile programs showed interest, some of that may have been shared, and it scared everyone off. jmo on that.

as for Yurcich, hard to say exactly what happened, but if you believe he was close to coming here, then the OSU job coming open and being offered was the fly in that ointment. no way to predict that. and not sure, w/out knowing more details, what we could have/should have done there, to lock him up.

and now we're in what appears to be phase 3 of the search.....likely because they had to, not because they wanted to. they've talked to a boat load of people, which i think is a good thing. and as we approach the end of this week and the convention ends, i think what we're going to see happen is some sort of shuffling on the staff. i think at this point, we've passed the point of being able to hire an OC that would check all the boxes, and stipulate that he only work with what's currently on staff.

that could open up a lot of different doors, and is why there's so much speculating on who could be in our, co OC or whatever.

for my money, i like the idea of Tee and Sark coming in. i'm very intrigued by the potential of a Lebby/Tee package. i don't know wha tto think of Chaney and the possiblity of him coming, but i wouldn't be against it.

and then there's the "out of left field" candidates that we really don't even know about yet.

so when i say im not worried, it's not because i'm happy that it's taken us this long, as much as it is, there does seem to be an earnest attempt to find the best candidate, and they're not rushing. there's a committment to doing this right. and we just won't know if it is or not until the hire is made. that and i don't think it taking this long is all their doing. there's probably a large part of what happened in this search that falls in the category of "stuff happens" and htey've just had to deal with that as it's happened. and it sucks and it looks bad. that's still no reason to rush and overreact.

anyway. looking forward to the MO game tonight. GBO.
Never been a fan of any kind of Tee package....But a Sark, Tee & Osovet in waiting got me all

That’s one way to look at it as opposed to an offense that’s been ranked in the 100s two straight years.

Here's my thing UT is still a good spot to land, but we can't act like it's top 10 either.

I think Pruitt (if the names mentioned are accurate) is chasing some pretty high level OC targets, guys who are at or getting interest at top 10 jobs in the NCAA and some with NFL interest.

Very few guys will pass up a NFL job for a college job. You don't work as long of hours, less rules (NCAA violations etc.), typically better pay on average...it's the top level of the sport.

Interesting. Kills the theory that it has always been a done deal. I think personally that Pruitt put the OC on the backburner and really attacked recruiting. He knew he had time later for a OC and it would not hurt recruiting.
Mathews was high.

Bad sign as a black man that i had to change monken from monkey twice in my previous post?

Probably means your spellchecker is gonna turn you into an accidental racist if you don't enter the name into its dictionary to stop it from auto-correcting. Or that your spellchecker is ya, know, trolling you.

sark and tee have a history together and make a lot of sense, if continuity, experience and recruiting are your main goals.
That might be the hold up on Sark. He might have asked if he decides to take it, he wants to bring a guy with him..

well like i said, sure we have our issues, but it's not a 1 year sell. and our schedule lightens up for 2019....so there's some room to move fairly early. by 20 and 21, we could be in business again.

plus, an offense ranked that poorly........................no where to go but up. get that offense in the top 40 nationally and you're making great strides!!!

maybe. but i don't know how many of his compadres from ATL are tied to his hip. he did retain tee when he was at USCw, so i don't think it's a stretch to say that if tee could be parto f the deal that it would negatively affect Sark's decision.

he's just got to decide if he wants to go back to college or not.

you don't know til you ask.

UT is a high-profile P5 job where the last OC was one of the highest paid OCs in the country. UT didn't have problems hiring assistants last year. It's a quick process weeding out prospects who aren't interested. They're the ones who won't make a deal or want to wait to see if something better comes along. Bad strategy to wait around and be somebody's fallback when jobs he wanted more don't materialize. Guys like that will be looking for something better and be a high risk to leave the minute they find it.
