They are a good program. They are also definitely long term mid tier. With our recruiting, and hopefully now development, we should own them and USC both. Once we do that..IF..we do that, we can start on the next step. I know Pruitt is a good football coach, and we have several good football coaches on staff. I think if we can just have patience enough to let him get his OJT in..

He can get it done IMO for those reasons. He needs our support, not a bunch of LoM bitchin, criticism and picking at every mistake or percieved mistake he makes.

I think that is our only chance to reclaim our rightful place in CFB. If he fails, we all fail.

i just think it's probably pretty obvious that this search got derailed along the way, maybe a couple times. i feel fairly confident in thinking that Pruitt wanted Freeze and Yurcich, and both went sideways for various reasons. i've already said that i'm approaching the time to be worried about this, but the reality is that we did have a line on at least 2 what most of us would call "home run" hires. neither worked out. Freeze was probably more of a pipe dream, given that he didn't wind up at any of the p5 jobs he had been linked to. us, Auburn, Bama or FSU. i believe there's probably more dirt out there, and as more high profile programs showed interest, some of that may have been shared, and it scared everyone off. jmo on that.

as for Yurcich, hard to say exactly what happened, but if you believe he was close to coming here, then the OSU job coming open and being offered was the fly in that ointment. no way to predict that. and not sure, w/out knowing more details, what we could have/should have done there, to lock him up.

and now we're in what appears to be phase 3 of the search.....likely because they had to, not because they wanted to. they've talked to a boat load of people, which i think is a good thing. and as we approach the end of this week and the convention ends, i think what we're going to see happen is some sort of shuffling on the staff. i think at this point, we've passed the point of being able to hire an OC that would check all the boxes, and stipulate that he only work with what's currently on staff.

that could open up a lot of different doors, and is why there's so much speculating on who could be in our, co OC or whatever.

for my money, i like the idea of Tee and Sark coming in. i'm very intrigued by the potential of a Lebby/Tee package. i don't know wha tto think of Chaney and the possiblity of him coming, but i wouldn't be against it.

and then there's the "out of left field" candidates that we really don't even know about yet.

so when i say im not worried, it's not because i'm happy that it's taken us this long, as much as it is, there does seem to be an earnest attempt to find the best candidate, and they're not rushing. there's a committment to doing this right. and we just won't know if it is or not until the hire is made. that and i don't think it taking this long is all their doing. there's probably a large part of what happened in this search that falls in the category of "stuff happens" and htey've just had to deal with that as it's happened. and it sucks and it looks bad. that's still no reason to rush and overreact.

anyway. looking forward to the MO game tonight. GBO.

Sitting around waiting for one guy for a month with nothing definitive in play would be idiotic. I'm still choosing to believe Pruitt isn't an idiot.
I don't think he's an idiot. I'm beginning to worry he's finding it hard to sell this position to candidates.

I don't think he is either

1) I think he believed Yurcich was going to be the guy but he had a back up plan

2) Sark was/is the backup plan if he doesn't land an NFL job

3) all other names are being vetted in case Sark gets an NFL job

If a young up and comer is mentioned people think we're not shooting high enough. Monken is mentioned and people whine that we're shooting too high. Nothing but big names mentioned lately and everyone complains that Pruitt is panicking. I think I see the common theme. No matter what happens there will be a lot of belly aching in here.
I literally just said that a few days ago...there is no way Pruitt wins the court of opinion battle with this hire till the season, and with our personell issues, that are going to be a hard job to fix no matter who takes the job, there will he mass criticism. It is just a tough thankless job.
