Our weakness will be and is a box and 1,by March if we have not figured that out yet,it will be our kryptonite two teams have used it on us already and we struggled to score,3 if you include Missouri which is why we started out sluggish.
I wish barns would implement something that would allowed our shooters to get a rythem going like for Bowden,he’s a better transition off the dribble shooter, not a spot up shooter the offense evolves to slow for him with us pounding the paint.
BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE I LOVE THIS TEAM AND I AM IN NO WAY BASHING,IF IT ISNT BROKE DONT FIX IT lol.i just us to have a outside game, our shooters to be ready and effective by March or teams will just crowd the paint.🍊
You have been more observant than me. I haven't noticed anyone running a box and one against us. Which games did you observe this? Box and ones are typically used to take one player away. Triangle and two to take two players away. As much scoring potential as we have from all the positions, I can't imagine it would be very effective. I think we do struggle against a zone at times. I think the best offense against the zone is ball movement and getting open threes and hitting them. I think how we shoot the three this year dictates how far we go. If the opponent can pack it in and limit our inside game, it falls on the three point shooters to hit open shots.

Lol it’s ok a Box in 1 is basically 4 in the paint 2 at both side of the free throw line,2 at the lower boxes under the rim and 1 outside guarding the point guard it’s a shooters dream to see that, other teams see admiral and grant as our work horses and they are but in March they will take on double teams and as you seen lastnight they struggled until our 3 ball opened up.i only speaking highly of Bowden a lot because I went to school with him and witnessed how much better he was in transition shooting to get a rhythm going for him to shoot lights out (klay Thompson) like..not a spot up/set shooter waiting for the offense to develop like barns has built around admiral and grant.
for me i think the best thing about last night was two things....we took a solid punch in the face from a conference team on their court and didn't blink.

Grant Williams was a non factor as a scorer.

and we still won by 24.

this team dictates to the opponent. that's what i like about it.

Bowden is balling man! He coulda went for almost 30 had his 3 ball been falling. That game was "ugly" because it's how Mizzou/Martin want to play. The refs being so whistle happy early also didn't help, the thing about Bowden for me that's really impressed is he's not forcing it anymore and he is lights out at the line. A guy with that kind of talent shooting willing to run, play defense, and go aggressive at the rim ALSO shooting 6-6 at the line is not a guy you want to leave roaming with your 3rd best defender on him.

Cause Bone/Admiral will make you pay if you're not willing to put your best guys on them. Admiral had an "off" night and still went for 14 with 9 boards :-O

Just wish we had a true 5.

Did you see this?

Rivals Hates Us

Rivals ended up dropping our players an average of 21.4 spots
yeah, i saw that last week. just failed to even mention it.

i don't really care about the rankings. there's a solid core group in this class that are good players. that they were arbitrarily ranked one way a few months ago, and now this way a few months later...just don't care....lol.

but it's a fair point on the "ranking" and why it may not end up as high as we might of hoped....agree on that.

What's it say?
Jim Chaney had been on @CoachJPruitt's radar for a while and checked the boxes Pruitt was looking for in an OC, particularly the ability to develop QBs. In the end, @Vol_Football was able to up the ante enough financially to get Chaney, who has both SEC and NFL experience.

Coaching 100%

When he changed the lineup to include Bowden and Turner it was over.

Drew everything out of the paint and Alexander became a force.

Rick Barnes sat his two best players for the majority of first half. Went from 9 down to up 11 at halftime.

I guess the better way to put it is a zone.i call it a box in 1 because when I watched them they had 4 guys at each box or just crowded the paint and I assumed that what they was running, but calling it a zone would be a little more accurate so to speak, definitely! if the 3 ball isn’t there to open up the paint by March that’s how we will lose but it will be a fight to the end I agree.

Kyle in SEC play thus far looks like a good 5! But I feel you, one reason I'm excited to see DJ next season, he's a true 5...and he's got a full year to RS and get conditioned to be ready to step in next season.
He's trolling me. I would hit the ignore button on him if I were you. His post are not worth dirt most of the time.

KA is a huge piece to our puzzle. and he has had 2 great games in the last week. i though he was a monster last night.

he at least gives us the length to rim protect, and he's effective around the glass rebounding, 2nd chance attempts and that nice little jumper. so he can score, he's not just a "defensive body".

but as we've seen he's susceptible to being out physicalled and can get his shots blocked. that hook is no good lol. but he's playing a lot stronger around the rim than he did last year.

totally agree, and it has not been mentioned enough. he went guard heavy with bowden, bone and turner all on the floor at the same time, which is a wya different look than we've seen so far this season....and it was fun to watch them all play, and play well.

it was a showcase last night for guard play. and i honestly don't remember the last time i had this much confidence in our guards. bone is absolutely legit. and bowden is proving me way wrong.

Probably a 1-2-2 zone. A box and one you have one guy play man to man on the opposing team's best player and the other four play a zone. Same with a triangle and two except you have two players playing man to man and three playing a triangle zone.

All valid points!..I guess I’m just a worry worrier Because I know they are championship worthy, this team stands the best chance to win a natty and bring it home for the good fellas,if duke gets knocked out some how then we stand the best chance that’s the only team that worries me.

2-2-1?
