But he's been great for us.... Back to back championship games, top 5-10 all year.... Regular season Co title last year.

I need some time to get over this.

But I'm not mad at Rick Barnes. At all.

how could one be? He cant go grab 17 defensive rebounds auburn took, he can't control the ball and avoid 17 turnovers. That is just too much to overcome.

UT teams have trouble finishing. Maybe winning gets in the players' heads and they cave under pressure, but the longer we go without a championship, the harder it seems to get one. Not sure when the mentality changed, but it's been a while.

Guess Pearl's win bonus for the SEC Championship to his players was damn high!


I love this team, but we have weaknesses...we lack length and we're far lazier on defense this season than we were last year. Also we fall in love with jump shots. The good news this year & last has improved our recruiting. So Barnes will start reloading with 4 & 5 stars instead of rough 3 stars that need years to be developed. We hit gold on a lotta guys on this team, but you can't build a truly dominant championship team with guys like Pons & Fulkerson as your 7th option on the bench.


Not bad players, but at this level they aren't on the same level as UK, Auburn or LSU 7th options.

Let's face it.

Auburn would probably beat Tennessee 8 or 9 out of 10 times. Pearl just owns Rick Barnes.

This NCAA tourney is what it always is: ALL about matchups.

UT could get beat in the first round with wrong matchup or could make a run to the Final 4. The same thing could happen with Auburn too.

Auburn is a terrible matchup for us. Other teams match up better against Auburn. Auburn will probably have a challenging game on day one. It wouldn't surprise me if they got beat.

This is what I was worried about at the beginning of the year - meeting expectations.

To me, a great year is not special if you don’t win a title.

Sure. They won a lot of games. Broke records. Were ranked No. 1.

But yesterday means nothing without championship to secure a legacy.

If you ask this team they will tell you they fell short of expectations.

That’s disappointing.

It's a hard pill to swallow since we were vastly improved this season, losing 3 games in the SEC and being a 3 seed is crazy, LSU managed to only draw UK & us once, but beat both teams...(oddly terrible end game officiating in both wins though)

I am sure last night's comeback took a lot out of the guys. I am sure playing the late game 2 straight nights then playing our 3rd game early didn't help us either. Is what it is though you can either play through the excuses or you can create them.
