The divide between players and Barnes is becoming a concern for me.

Lamonte acting like Barnes didn’t have his back and now Admirals tweet.

Was there an underlying friction?

I noticed that too.
Barnes is very low key.
Very religious. Does not cuss.
Slow to anger.
Doesn’t work the refs.
It is what it is.

I agree to, but three days after the season to have your season leader subtweeting your coach should be a concern right?
Disagree, just another stupid by-product of social media. Back in high school I had an amazing Head coach, great man, impressive winning percentage at the school, playoffs every year kind of coach. We players were still pissed off and criticized some of the play calls he made in our final game as seniors after the fact. Twitter just wasnt available yet to vent our frustrations too.

A little. But I would say the one consistently dissappointing thing about Barnes this year was his complacency to sit on the bench when the refs should've been getting an ear full. He loves this team no doubt, but he needs to fight for em a little more with the refs.

A lot of talk about Chaney and his Crompton work on tos. IF, and that's a big if, Chaney could get JG to post a qbr as high as Crompton's SR year, how big of a jump would that be for JG, in terms of QBR?

Bounce Pass Crompton was horrible in ‘08, so I doubt JG makes that big of a jump. But I do expect a jump.

I don’t think we have the OL or RB this year that crompton leaned on so heavily.

Crompton’s OL has two walk on starters and got exposed in games like Va Tech. Montario was awesome, but it’s not like Chandler or Banks are Tauren Poole either.

Crompton was throwing nothing but wormburners and was much worse than JG at this point before the light came on. No need to diminish the turnaround he and Chaney and Kiffin were able to pull off.

I must be missing something from the talk on TOS because I only know of QBR as an ESPN metric. Here is the comparison for the two from ESPN:

Total Quarterback Rating - College Football - ESPN
And here is the comparison between the two just using the NCAA Passer Rating:

cfbstats.com - 2018 Southeastern Conference Player Leaders

It looks to me like the big difference between the two is that Chaney called 138 more pass plays for Crompton in 2009 than Helton called for Guarantano in 2018. ESPN evaluated 151 more plays for Crompton than Guarantano, the difference I think is that Crompton ran the ball 13 more times than Guarantano.

There must be some other QBR that I don't know about because otherwise it seems to me we're setting the bar pretty low for Chaney.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions in our fan base. Yes the sullens twins were walk ons but they played well. We also had two NFL OL on that line and probably 3 (Aaron Douglas). So when you grade the OLs as a whole it’s really not close.

You also had two NFL RBs in brown and hardest and a
NFL deep threat in denarius Moore.

*that team was loaded and should’ve won 10+ games if kiffin was a good HC

In the amount of time that it happened, that Crompton turnaround was damn near miraculous. He was significantly worse than JG.

McClendon was tough, but Douglas and Thomas were freshmen. Wanya and Wright were much more highly ranked than them coming in and it’s quite possible they surpass anything anybody on that ‘09 OL has done. D-Mo hadn’t proven much up to that point at all either, he actually really didn’t take off until 2010 or 2011. I’ll give you Brown and Hardesty, but don’t think Chandler and Banks are chopped liver either.

That 2009 team definitely had some bright spots, but there were some glaring holes too. One of those holes was OL, and to say that our current OL is not close to that 2009 OL is a bit of revisionist history.

Didn’t mean to repost that.

You just had to go and bring up the UCLA game didn't you?

Edit to add table for Guarantano. ESPN didn't give him numbers for ETSU and Chryst had the Alabama and Missouri games. I think people remember the Vandy game more because it was the last game of the season.
