Men are doing that well enough on their own. The fashion arguements and waxing discussions on this board alone, freaks an older guy like myself, out.And that’s pretty much my issue. Society as a whole is demasculinizing men and it’s another tired “replace a male” situation. A 00whatever movie would have been sweet.
but its not an original story line. it's several real people smushed into one. Narcissus, Cassius and Spartacus for the main character. Is the Patriot an original idea?
UF players saying Tennessee isn't a rivalry game. Claim LSU's a rivalry game, but Tennessee is just another game.
They SO need the snot smacked out of them this year.
Financial conservatism in Hollywood recently. Easier to have an immediate audience than wing it. Also.....audiences are suckers for what they are familiar with. We have only ourselves to blame.
Or watch independent films and see plenty of original stories. There is more content now than ever before in history. If you want to see original content, don't look toward your major movie theaters - hit the smaller theaters or follow festival winners and seek them out or wait to stream. Then you have Prime, Netflix, soo much new content everywhere you look.

Not idea, but Gladiator is not based on a prior film storyline or a sequel. I think it was loosely based on an old novel from the 50's, and it was not necessarily historically accurate. To be honest, I saw it on a list of movies considered original, but it doesn't change the initial discussion.
Dude's got great taste. In Hollywood they call them "pre-aware" properties. I am getting pretty tired of them myself, particularly the superhero movies. I haven't even bothered to watch the last two Avengers movies, I'm sure I will at some point. The only one that was remotely new and different in the last few years was Into the Spider-Verse.
The second point is right as well, there are some hidden gems out there if you look for them. Midsommar is a very different kind of summer release, and I really enjoyed it, but it is not for everyone and its box-office shows. It will likely be a cult classic that horror fans watch for decades, however, even though it isn't really a horror movie as most people think of them. The director's previous feature, Hereditary, was one of the better and more original true horror movies that I have seen in years. I caught Under the Silver Lake on Amazon Prime and it was a very different movie that what is popular these days. I liked it, but it is polarizing for those that have seen it.
