I really think it's a combination. I think we were poorly prepared and overlooked this team then when we got hit in the mouth, our players didn't respond. It starts with the seniors and "Broadway" and flows down to everyone else.
No disrespect but, Like I said. I’m listening to the guys who’ve actually played on that field and bleed for UT football. Sure, coaches played a part.

On the players bro. No leadership on this team. I’m gonna listen to the true old head VFLs about this. They are saying this is on the players.
Leadership has and will always start with the qb. Guy slides a yard short instead of picking up an extra 5yds is a B****. Don't care if hes in the middle of the field or not. @ 6'5 vs GAst you fight for that yard. The season will go down the tubes further if he's still the starter.

It’s very possible he is the main issue regarding leadership but to use that play as an example just isn’t fair. Since the rule was changed that the spot of the ball is where the qb starts to slide I’ve seen many many QB slide short of first downs. Many of those QBs are great Qbs, winners and damn good leaders.

Besides that play was on 2nd down and there is zero excuse for not being able to get 3rd and 1 against those guys

We are not winning 7 games. That team we saw yesterday isn't beating anybody outside of UTC.
We left plays unmade, left laying there on the field. We have it within us to do better, to teach the freshmen better, or get em off the field. We need our leader of the offense to not slide down after 9 when we need 10. Our D coaches gotta look at the film where we opposed the run with not 9 in the box, not 7, but 3 in the box and everybody else running around like a bad fire drill. We have some defensive starters we need to get back sooner or later. We can do better. I believe we will.

Former players said the same thing last year and the problem persists. If the players have no personal accountability and drive, and if they don't hold each other accountable, then the coaches have to light a fire under them. The laggards should be getting it from all sides-- instead they're getting it from nowhere. Don't get guys like Fred White started on the subject.

That one play disgusted me more than any other.

They were not prepared and thought they had it won before kickoff. Can’t coach or play like this again. Do not like Bama pru. But if he’s fired at the end of this year, we are more than likely 15 years out. If he isn’t the answer, then we still are likely 15 years out. He has to coach here for 4 total seasons. He will have a chance to prove he can win with them. In January of 22, we will be back or we will be canning him and waiting another 15 years. As much as I loathe him right now, we have to give him the chance to have us back in a couple of years because otherwise it may never happen and if it does, it won’t be soon.

Just going to step back and see how it plays out. Need to play good football this Saturday. I will hate him till he puts a winning team out there. Even then, will just tolerate the stupid gump.

Unbelievable to me that Inky put so much into what it means to be a man and to play for this program.
Just for so many of them to pull that meandering around, disinterested bs in the very 1st game after.

Idk man. If there's a chance you can get extra yards, you gotta get them. As long as he didn't get hurt, and those misleading stats are nice and padded he's good. He actually thinks he can play in the league. Are you sure it was 2nd? Could have sworn it was 3rd.
I can see us not getting the 1st on 3rd and 1. The best rb that can push a pile plays on defense.

Venture over to the FF, if you want some good laughs. Little and OD are battling for most ignorant threads of the day.
That little vol guy is sarcastic with that thread. He's been very adamant that Brian Maurer is the second coming of John Elway and only JG is standing in his way.

I started following right around the 2001 season. I feel fortunate to have seen some good teams before it all jumped the rails but I would have loved to have been able to experience those 90s teams.
See I'm even a little more worse off. Moved to Tennessee in January 2006. Watched the Vols casually that fall and slightly more in 2007. Attended my first game in 2008 and started to call myself a fan. Attended a couple games a year until 2015 when I bought season tickets.

I'm still going to all the games and will take my lumps. I'm probably a sheep because I lean more toward "they overlooked a weaker opponent" and it bit them mindset. I refuse to think that is the product we will see the remainder of the year. We have a lot of true freshman in key positions so mistakes will happen. The mistakes made by upper classmen like DeAndre Johnson is what has me concerned. The lack of a vocal leader has me concerned.

I'm not jumping off the top of Neyland yet. We are 1/12th of the way through the season. Hopefully we can come together and make a bowl. Might be wishful thinking but I'll be hoping until we play through the last second of the game that mathematically eliminates us from that. Go Vols!

Well..ok then. All I know is we got beat at home by a two win Sun Belt team...until something changes that is who we are..one of the very worst teams in CFB.

It's a little weird but there's another one that's almost downright creepy about it.
