You don't have to have fire to be a leader. Peyton is one of the greatest QB leaders in the history of the sport. It isn't about fire. It's about leadership. And Peyton knew when to get into his teammates and he did it when necessary.Forgot how Manning, Tee, Clausen, Bray, Dobbs were balls of energy. Manning was pretty chill, as was Tee and Bray was chill but a killer. Honestly Dobbs is the only one I ever remember with great leadership skills in college. Most college kids simply don't. Hell, TL, Tua, Deshaun, not balls of energy or runnin around on sidelines. Pretty calm actually, never too high or too low. You know who did? Sheriron Jones had FIRE, Will Mcbride had MOXIE. Who gaf? They couldn't play. Comes down to execution, not some illusory moxie or energy. That's for media narratives and fans.
Yes, several upper-classmen don't seem that bothered by the loss.I’ve seen player tweets, are they real? Is that Hubbs post real?
Here is the reality: We are nowhere near talented enough to be relevant. Not just elite, but even good. We lack so much talent compared to other SEC teams its not even funny. There was optimism because of recruiting. Pruitt and Nieds can recruit. And they'll get us to relevancy. And then, after winning 8-9 games, they'll recruit even more talent and eventually, after putting together 3-4 years of top 10 recruiting classes we'll be ready to compete for championships. We'll be ready to be elite again.
Well, if this season goes the way it looks like it is about to, then recruiting will die. I don't care if its Nieds, Tee, Ansley and Pruitt out there. Recruiting will die. Then what? How do we recover from that? I'm not sure that we can. The future is very concerning right now.
If you don't think each of those guys you listed had swagger then idk what to tell you. They all showed plenty of emotion or passion of some sort. Its besides the point really JG has none of the above and its killing the entire team's energy.Forgot how Manning, Tee, Clausen, Bray, Dobbs were balls of energy oozing Tebow and Mayfield swag 24/7 lolol. That's for media narratives and fans (and the Butch ilk).
So if I am reading most people correctly in this thread .. we have decided to fire Jeremy Pruitt after his 1st game of year 2 because he cannot get Butch Jones' remaining players to fall in line and play hard?
There is a reason we cannot have nice things anymore. Give the man a chance to at least get his own players in place.
I know that 1st game was an embarrassing performance by the coaches and players... but the best we were hoping for this season was to win 6 or 7 games so we could maybe get a good recruiting class to come in for 2020. Now after one game .. IMO the fan reaction to the loss will do almost as much damage to a future recruiting class as the actual embarrassing loss. If Vol Fans show they still support the coaches and players, that will do more in the eyes of future recruits than anything else.
Oh.. and don't believe every locker room rumor you read on the internet or hear on the radio .. Fake news to drive Vol fans crazy and give the blogger/media much more attention. They know how rabid Vol fans are.
If we do end up firing Pruitt, it's time for them to hire the best football coach for the job. Regardless of fit, regardless of what offense or defense they prefer to run. The best damn coach! Tired of hearing about Gruden, other coaches that couldn't get it done in the sec, and not damn Tee Martin either.I wouldn't do that. Here's where I'm at, if we have to fire Pruitt, and I hope we don't. I hope that he fixes this culture and goes with youth. But if he doesn't and we go 2-10 or something crazy and he's fired, I'd pay Mark Richt whatever it takes to get him out of retirement. I don't care what his ceiling is. I don't care. I just want to be respectable. Then we can talk about moving up. We are at the bottom of the SEC. I just want to be average right now. Put us in tier 2 for now. I'd offer Richt whatever it takes if he'd come if the worst case happens.
If Pruitt doesn't work it absolutely has to be an experienced coach. Look at Mack Brown at NC and Les Miles at Kansas. Surely we could steal Miles away! I don't know. I hope we don't have to fire Pruitt. I really wanted him to be the guy.If we do end up firing Pruitt, it's time for them to hire the best football coach for the job. I have to believe this just to feel something other than depressionOk the lose Saturday hurts but I’m not out on this team and I think we see a totally different team the rest of the season. Get ready to embarrass BYU in prime time this week. Coaches realize they shouldn’t have been over looking the first 3 teams now.
It’s happening.
