Was Peyton there?It might be good that this game played out the way it did. We experienced all the Florida-game tropes:
- Big player out while they get one back;
- Lifeless QB plays the game of his career;
- Early drive-killing turnover;
- Wacky “typical Florida” ending…
but we prevailed. We faced the nightmares and didn’t flinch (much).
I was surprised by some of his passes. It seemed like the gameplan was to stop the run and allow the pass. But, those 4th down conversions were painful. I haven't cussed that much in along time.Our secondary played like ass. No argument from me on that front. But I saw absolutely nothing from AR in the first three games to suggest that was going to happen. Dude made some extremely difficult throws and I can only remember the ball being off the mark once or twice.
Hopefully this was an outlier and the wheels fall off their ****, but the plan to make AR beat us with his arm from the pocket didn't work out.
If the exploitable flaws were in the gameplan, yes. But I daresay the majority of the exploitable flaws are in the personnel... and that's a more difficult thing to fix.Wouldn't Heupel be able to quickly spot exploitable flaws in Banks's gameplans?
I was referring to the lack of tempo and run run play calling once Vols got up 38-21. Could’ve definitely had been more aggressive in that situation. But defense is definitely the issue with the team. It was awful today. Very awful.
He did have a few good throws, but mostly the wr were so wide open that even a mediocre AR could hit them. This game doesn't change my opinion of him at all, decent runner, below average passer. He hit maybe 4 or 5 contested throws.Our secondary played like ass. No argument from me on that front. Only criticism is not going for the field goal.Why run tempo when you want to kill clock? He did exactly what he should have done. Even with the converted onsides kick, they had 17 seconds. I don’t get that criticism…at all. They also were gaining 4-7 yards on first down runs.
Defense was great against the run.
Our defense has obvious concerns. I also don’t think a lot of teams are going to go for it on 4th down as much as UF either. If they don’t go for it, this game gets out of hand fast, but I do acknowledge that we have to stop teams on 4th down.Didn’t get to watch it live, seems like Banks’ style of defense is pretty bad for what our offense forces.
Teams have to throw against us, we’re going to score them out of being able to just run. And this soft zone secondary **** just isn’t going to work.
