I know that it's low-hanging fruit to trash on our defense, but our defense DID get our offense the ball back in several high-pressure situations last year. They stopped several good/great offenses last year in the third quarter or late in the game. Our offense couldn't capitalize.

If the defense plays the exact same as they did last year, and the offense is improved with another offseason under their belts, we could still be 2+ wins better. We'll be winning a lot of high-scoring games. Fans of defense will be pulling their hair out. But the offense alone can be a 1-3 game difference-maker if the defense doesn't make any changes.

Which is great… we can do both pretty well. It opens up the play action game when we’re that effective running it. I think Hooker led the Country in Pass TDs off of play action last year. Which in large part is because of being good running it

This was the biggest hole in the Big Ten's big celebration:



All the high-fiving because the usual will get rich:
* Networks
* Universities
* Admins
* Coaches
* old dudes that don't play football

Nobody was talking about the players. I think that is the one thing they didn't make sure to solidify, and the biggest feedback that they are getting. Thus the comment in the tweet above.

Sankey and the SEC have a wide open lane to make a new deal that makes the PLAYERS rich, and they'll undercut the Big Ten and their networks completely. If the best talent isn't playing in your conference, you can cut those revenue expectations in half.

My view from these reports is that we do not have the talent and depth on defense to win a national title this year.

This isn’t alarming to me.

My expectation is that we have enough quality there to win 8 games (or more, if we catch breaks). I think I’ve read enough to believe that is still true.
