I have felt that way for a long time...Phil got entitled, lazy and stubborn as the program slowly rotted to the ground, and he got left in the dust by better program managing coaches.

I am not a Phil guy, and never was after the 96 Tiger High game.
You sound like my dad. I swear he’s had nightmares of that kick off return for the last 26 years.

Jon had no desire for any of that crap either..he just wanted to save everybody.
He still had ego and self-interest. He was the good guy that would have either been corrupted or torn apart by trying to do good for various parties. All humans succumb to the game...the process. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and all that jazz.

Imo *that individual* was moreso reflecting a process, not a monarchy in power. Jon and other humans would not have been a process change, just another very human individual at the top being chased and attacked by other humans. *that individual* could end that cycle.

I was a fan of Fulmer the coach, but I also thought it was time for him to go when he did. Of course, UT screwed that up exponentially with how they handled the situation and the subsequent hire and the years of wandering in the wilderness.

I was not a fan of Fulmer the AD. He sucked at the job.

Love him or hate him, Phil Fulmer is a Tennessee Vol legend. And deservedly so. I respect that.

Also...I'm not saying Jon should have been king, I figured it would turn into some primitive form of democracy by the end while reading the books, but I just don't think putting a computer in charge of the world is a great idea.

1. No, I won't post it. I will shrivel up and die if I hear any more of Danielson's love fest.

2. Because our dbs haven't been good and he was a highly rated juco player. His highlights look pretty good. He takes more risks than most and comes up with some nice ints.
Agreed, Danielson hangs off of Sabans sack by his teeth

Yeah that Florida run, the defender had the angle on him and he knew he wasn't going to outrun him. Small isn't the fastest back, no knock to him. Sampson or even Wright and soon to be Seldon might have taken that to the house.

I don’t expect him to outrun him. But he just stepped out of bounds without any contact. Push back into the defender and fight for extra yards. Stiff arm. Try to break a tackle. Even if he gets tackled or pushed out, he could’ve gotten a few more yards. That’s twice he’s done that and it’s bizarre.

It was reported at the time that Dobbs parents wanted him to have a redshirt season… it was weird that it was one of the few promises he tried to honor.

Yeah, he simply ran out of QBs and had to play Dobbs. It hurt Butch too…if Dobbs comes back for 2017, Tennessee probably beats Florida and maybe the wheels don’t fall off. Gets Butch at least another year.

I don’t post much about it, but my wife could use every single prayer available right now. Probably not happening today even though she’s in a lot of distress. Doing everything we can to try and give her comfort.

Sorry to hear this friend, Lord this family needs you right now, we ask you to touch this precious young lady and comfort this family during this process. Touch, heal and comfort as only you can. Amen

Yeah a lot of his points made me shake my head. But his greater point of it just being a miserable life for everyone involved with no real “hero” (Jon Snow) to speak of, or even a comic relief (Tyrion) character is the vibe I got when I watched Ep1. I’ll admit I haven’t watched since. I just really don’t like the fact there’s really no one to root for like there was in GoT.

I don't want to pay for HBO on top of all the other streaming services we have just to watch a GoT preamble. I've read the stories that I think the show is based on - basically just Targaryen history. There are just too many good shows on these days that fill that fantasy niche that weren't on or even really possible to put on in terms of cost back when GoT was still going strong.

Rings of Power got real good real fast the past few episodes and while I haven't read some of the stuff it's based on (appendices and Simalrillion, I did read the trilogy and more important for this show, played Shadow Over Mordor which features Celebrimbor (so I know what happens to him in the middle of the story via the game and what ultimately probably happens to him via the books and trilogy). That may be a slight spoiler for some of you but Celebrimbor is gonna be super important in the future.

With GoT the show gave you people to root for but all of them go off the rails by degrees in the books. That's kinda the point of Jon Snow - the one good man in all that mess who is forced to live in exile despite who he is and what he could represent for all of Westeros. The other good man that the new shows timeline *should* take place in and who could've done what Jon also could do also got sent to and died on the Wall, although for him it was always more of a choice. That's also why the show can jump off a cliff for the ending. That should've been brought full circle but IDK if Martin wanted it left alone for him to be able to close it himself in the books.

The problem isn’t where they got to. It was how they got there.

It might be a scheme thing.

It's possible that Heupel would rather have everyone reset more quickly for the next play instead of giving the entire defense a chance to get back and get set up.

That is actually not far from the truth of Martin's writing.

I mean it's pretty clear the North is Scotland and the South is England with Westeros being the known western world. The various houses are based on noble houses with some French royal history thrown in because well, the French royals and revolutionaries are always entertaining. But GoT isn't an allegory for anything current. It draws heavily on well known European wars and stories. People can read today into things and no author is completely removed from the time he lives in but where Martin's ideas came from is pretty clear.

I suppose the most obvious allegory would be to say that Martin is a modern day Oliver Cromwell that believes all royal houses are corrupt.

Are you alluding (eluding for my affect/effect peoples) to the suggested plotholes or absurdities of the end battles? I could see that, except absurdities and deus ex machinas were throughout the show and nobody seemed to care until their character didn't "win" which in many ways must be ironic for the writers. Not that everyone had a rooting interest, but it seemed everyone I've talked to had some person they wanted to "win" like it was the very kind of political battle they were mocking in the story itself.
I didn’t have a rooting interest. The first four seasons were the finest television I’ve ever seen. The quality began to dip in season 5, season 7 was messy but had some cool moments, but I found season 8 atrociously written and at times offensive in its stupidity.
