In 1982, one season after sharing the SEC title with Georgia, Bear Bryant and Alabama were 5-0 and ranked #2 in the country after thumping #3 Penn State in Birmingham.
They rolled into Knoxville, TN and got beat 35-28. Snapping an 11-game winning streak over the Vols.
Then the wheels came off...
After rebounding over Cincinnati and Mississippi State, they dropped three more games.
#11 LSU 20-10
Southern Miss 38-29
Auburn 23-22
All at home, and they'd had an 11-game and 7-game streak over LSU and Auburn, respectively. And a 57-game home winning streak.
They won the Liberty Bowl over Illinois, and Bear Bryant retired.
Alabama has a lot of flaws this season. They're lucky they aren't 4-3. I bet they lose again, and we start to see the end of the Saban Era in college football.
They also let a blatant spiking of the ball go for Bama. That was probably the most obvious miss of the weekend, not just of our game. If they were trying to screw Bama, they wouldn't have let something like that slide. The fact is, every flag thrown against Bama was legitimately for a penalty. Most of them were for false starts, delay of game, whatever. Every DPI Flag was absolutely legit. The most egregious flag thrown was in their favor, the obvious OPI that was called DPI and gave them a touchdown.
Now, you might be able to make the argument that they let us get away with stuff. But I could go through the game also and point out multiple holds that we’re not called against them. We can both play that game.
You lost because you couldn’t cover Jalin Hyatt, we ran the ball down your throats, and your kicker sucks. Deal with it.
LOL one last second loss to an elite Tennessee offense and all of a sudden the greatest college coach ever doesn't know how to relate to players?Cubelic just put it out there. (Greg said nothing, but didn't defend)
NIL has changed how much influence Saban has. He doesn't know how to relate to paid players. Players can now go to a school like Tennessee who will provide a more player friendly coaching environment while getting paid and still to the NFL.
"You must know how to relate to this generation's athlete, he (Saban) didn't know how in the NFL and he doesn't know how to do it in the new NIL age."
We're at the point where if your QB doesn't have the ability to evade the pass rush like AR/ Bryce, then you're not going to have a chance to beat us. It's that simple.
I like this! Team has to stay focused. We can beat anyone when we are extremely focused, however, I think we can slip up and lose to someone we shouldn’t lose to if we aren’t focused.Heupel is all business on SEC This Morning. Already been out on the grass this AM for practice. Said really happy with focus.
