All the people who think you should build a quarter of your roster with the portal learning a hard lesson today. They don’t always turn to gold like Mel Tucker in 2021.
Many are in the portal for a reason that is not good. Not all but plenty. You still build your team through recruiting. And hope you pluck a few good ones from the portal now and then. You sure don’t want be relying on too many transfers all at once. GBO!

A year ago I was told this was a terrible take.

They had a stretch where they were getting nothing on the ground and it ended a couple of drives. They got lucky that Nebraska was mentally weak and worse than they were. Most decent teams would have made them pay in that situation.
I am just talking about the last drive, they ripped off chunks. I thought that is what we were talking about. I wasn’t talking about the play calling the entire game.

Who does Nebraska go after now that Frost cannot get it done? I’m not sure what they do. They went the offense route and it’s backfired. They need to find a Pelini or Narduzzi guy.

I think it will prove to be the right take. Now don’t misunderstand there will be good players come through portal just not the numbers you totally want to build your team with. I am tickled we got Bru and Turnage and others but it is not more important than recruiting.

Well, it was sealed when everyone starting pumping money into football and facilities- they never had a prayer in recruiting and never will again

Yep. It was different when there were only 10 or 15 decent to good teams. Now that kids can go anywhere and play on good teams why would they want to go to Nebraska? And their teams from the 90s didn't put a ton of talent in the NFL so I don't see them having a program changing legacy class.

Scott Frost's coaching career is puzzling to me. Has he been a right place right time kind of guy? I mean I don't believe he's some sort of offensive savant. That's been evident in Lincoln. The offense at Oregon was all Chip Kelly. Was the undefeated season at UCF just a perfect storm for him? He's been worse than Pelini ever was at Nebraska.
Put in his time and was ready for the opportunity. For some reason his process failed. Mebbe the hometown, favorite son expectations didn’t help, but it’s his failure. Could see him reinventing himself and the dynamics working at another locale…after a mid-major stint.

They could do worse than Lance Leipold. That’s a more-with-less kind of coach, which frankly, is what they need.

Edit: or Hugh Freeze. He would take the job.

They will get someone like Blake Anderson at Utah State or a young NFL guy.

1. Gary Patterson currently at Texas.
2. Bryan Harsin about to be fired at Auburn.
3. Jamey Chadwell from Coastal Carolina.

I wonder if Josh Pate is regretting all of the pumping up of Nebraska that he has done during the off season? If they are having this much trouble with Northwestern then they are in for another three or four win season.

Frost might get fired mid season if they lose this game. It will kill Nebraska's confidence.
Northwestern under Fitzgerald has been a salty program tho. This isn’t an Old Dominion level loss that was a harbinger for Fuente’s eventual doom.

Three solid names. Patterson would revitalize Nebraska’s Texas connection tho more at the high 3 star level. Don’t know if he’s ready or willing to abandon his cushy oil dummy ties to make that plunge at his age.

Nebraska sealed their fate when they left Big 12

Yep. They can’t recruit Texas anymore. Previously your family could see tons on games playing all the Texas and Oklahoma schools. Not anymore. I don’t think is possible they can be a powerhouse again. Good but never sustained greatness. Look at their surrounding recruiting states
