Too much competition in much better places to live. Maybe this new TV deal will allow them to overpay a good coach and then have their boosters start a collective that overpays in NIL instead of donating to the athletic department. I don't know anything about what level of boosters they have, though. Corn money isn't the same as oil money. I just don't see many reasons for them to be more than an average program again.
Money’s money. Who’s Clemson’s big sugar daddy? Program rows in the same direction and kids will want to play for that rabid crowd. Our big draw when we’re at our best.

Butchna, do you think they would have benefited from staying in the Big12?

I don't particularly. Maybe for a time but with the rise of Baylor, TCU, OK State and even Houston the talent in Texas has had options to stay close to home. There are also lots of SECW schools that are just as close or closer than Nebraska. They are one of the all-time programs that are a casualty of parity and conference realignment. I don’t see how they ever fully recover.

We are lucky to be in the SEC, have a great college town in a medium sized city and have a lot of good recruits within a reasonable driving distance. We also had a lot of exposure with high level NFL players even when our program was garbage.

Clemson is surrounded by great talent, hired the right coach who got the right assistants and took advantage in a weak conference with FSU and Miami being down. Plus Clemson is in a much better area to live. They built a winner before NIL and the bulk of realignment. Nebraska has a big uphill battle in the current climate. They don’t have anything to offer that 20+ other college programs in better locations can't offer. They will have to overpay for future success.

Hired the right guy and it worked. Their success isn’t due to exclusive South Carolina talent. They recruit nationally…cuz they WIN.

No doubt. Another casualty of the Longhorn Network.
The decline of Nebraska and Tennessee started in the same time frame. 2001 vs Colorado and 2003 vs Missouri were defining moments for the Nebraska decline. Hopefully I don’t have orange glasses on but I think Tennessee has a much better opportunity to claw its way back compared to Nebraska. I honestly don’t think Nebraska will ever be better than a 7-8 win team.

Agreed but SC has much better in-state talent than Nebraska and they are very close to GA, NC and FL talent. They are much better situated to have a winning program in an easier conference. Unless they make an elite hire what does Nebraska have to offer? Relatively little, IMO. Frost was supposed to be a great hire but elite recruits certainly haven't lined up to play for him. I just don't see a the type coach of coach needed going there without them significantly overpaying and with NIL they will have to overpay recruits in order for said elite coach to build a winning roster. Despite CFB cycles, I just can't see Nebraska making a major comeback. I definitely could be wrong.

He just can’t pull the trigger and is so slow in the pocket. Crazy
Too slow upstairs. Heupel knew he couldn't process quickly enough for this offense.

But ofc plenty of folks in the FF were like HeUpEl iSnT gIvInG hIm A fAiR cHaNcE as or "welp this is a qb running offense (lol) so he's just a bad fit because this is Butch's offense"

Smh 😑

Going through Nebraska forums, the common sentiment is "Alright we tried the up and comer, time to go get the proven winner this time."

Where have I heard that before..

Sucks for them. Gonna have to slowly realize their ceiling is a middle of the road Big 10 team, and their floor is, well, where they have been hanging out for three years.

Ironically, if proven winner is really how they feel, maybe they could convince Gus to come out there. He's a **** coach but I don't think they are gonna do better. Hell, I think UCF is a better job than Nebraska five years later.

Nebraska is a tough job
Recruiting footprint is nowhere to be found
