At 5th I really don't see us missing the CFP unless a few things happen.

Pac-12 champion is a 1 loss Oregon or USC
TCU stays undefeated as the Big 12 champion
Ohio State/Michigan loser stays a 1 loss and it's a close loss
LSU runs the table and Georgia is a 1 loss

If Georgia wins out, Ohio State wins out (and handles Michigan) then we really only need TCU to lose OR the Pac-12 champ to be a 2 loss team.

Maybe for that year, but...

The committee wants the traditional powers with the monstrous fanbases in there.

If I were a TCU fan, I'd be Battered Frog Syndrome about everyone in CFB media saying "College Football is better when Tennessee is good" for the last 20 years.
Only 1 of those conference titles in the Big 12 Title. The rest are Mountain West, C-USA, etc.

It really sucks potentially making the CFP kinda diminishes the value of making the sugar bowl if we get left out, but at last it's still a monumental achievement for Heupel and the program. It's important not to lose track of where we've been the last 15 years and how far we've came in just 2 years.

The future is bright.

Ugh. Watching these 2 plays and knowing that throughout the year these were pitch and catch TDs sucks. I wish I had access to an All22 type film so I could really take a look at the WRs days vs UGA DBs.

Kirby's comments about "no layups" (like that Hyatt almost-TD) meant that he was encouraging his DBs to hold the WRs. At worst they get a 15 yard penalty, as opposed to surrendering a big play/TD. Once Tennessee gets in the red zone, they don't have to worry about holding receivers because they can keep everything more contained in a limited space.

It's not a bad plan, Purdue kind of did the same thing against us in the MCB.

*whispers* The layup opportunities were still there.. we just missed them.

It really was a perfect storm for UGA. They played probably the best, maybe 2nd best, they have all year and we played our worst. Not trying to discredit their defense because they obviously are talented and played very well, just pointing out that even with that, we still had our chances. We just uncharacteristically didn’t take advantage.

😤. It’s coming. Make sure you keep a sleepy eye over your left shoulder. You may not know when or how, but it’s coming.

Yes they were there, we just missed a few that would have changed the game completely. Their best game, under their most ideal circumstances. Our worst game in uncharted land for the program and the players.

We were rattled, especially early. It is what it is.

I think that the team settled in late, found their footing, and learned from the experience in real time. Hence the Hooker sideline speech as the game was ending.

And both of those Hooker was getting hit right after release. The pressure definitely did it's job.
