I do think the Vols fell too far after their loss for being a No. 1.

But I think the committee did that on purpose as they knew/hoped things in front of them would work itself out.

We dropped 4 spots, Bama dropped 3, and Clemson dropped 6...so wasn't too surprising. The question is how far will Oregon & Ole Miss fall with both picking up their 2nd loss and will TCU jump Michigan like the AP shows (which would make no sense considering how much they struggled to beat a bad 3 loss Texas team).

If the committee needs to, they'll cherry-pick metrics in the final ranking to create exciting match-ups between high-profile brands. They want to drive ratings in all markets to boost revenue. UT is playing an exciting brand of football right now. If the Vols had played better against UGA, W or L, we likely wouldn't have dropped out of the top 4.

If we Sherman our way through the last two games, they'll have a path to put us at #3. IDT a #1/#4 SEC rematch would be as desirable an option as OSU/UM vs. UT. And if SC wins out and TCU implodes, some would find that fortuitous.

Beamer makes everything about himself (the opposite of Heupel).

Beamer was an assistant, Beamer saw a high school game, Beamer went to VT, Beamer wishes...

It's a fixed pattern, like when Beamer told his team they beat KY because Stoops mocked his video.

What the committee really wants

#1 Georgia vs #4 USC or TCU or 1 loss ACC champ (if both USC & TCU lose)
#2 Ohio State or Michigan vs #3 Tennessee

If USC is a 1 loss champion and TCU is an undefeated champion then we might be in trouble...otherwise I think the above is the preference
Uga/usc would be uga/oregon repeat

Translation: Why did Tennessee fall out of the top 4 with a loss, but Georgia wouldn't, should they lose? It's a fair argument.
Especially since we played Bama and LSU from the West, while GA got Aubie and the Pirate. It's not certain at all that GA could have run our schedule. If GA loses, the answer is they could not. We would have the head to head over the SEC champ on the road, LSU over GA at a neutral site (and 2 losses), and GA at home over us.

Bingo! This will guarantee the largest ratings.

Then Tennessee vs UGA in the natty, and Tennessee takes it at the end to cap off a great season :)

Yeah, but they don't care about the results they care about the ratings/viewers.

Which will help us since our games draw tons of viewers:

WK 10: TN vs GA 1st in ratings 6.7 and viewers 13.06m
WK 9: TN vs KY 4th in ratings 2.1 and viewers 4.04m
WK 7: TN vs AL 1st in ratings 6.1 and viewers 11.56m
WK 6: TN vs LSU 6th in ratings 1.7 and viewers 2.96m
WK 4: TN vs FL 1st in ratings 3.0 and viewers 5.57m
WK 2: TN vs Pitt 2nd in ratings 2.4 and viewers 4.46m

Genuine question, did he ever operate in the TE/FB type role like that at UT, Baylor or his short stint with 49ers? I don’t remember him doing much of the type of blocking and what not at UT that Fant does game in and game out, but this was also 6 years ago and I admittedly didn’t watch much of him at Baylor.
I remember him obliterating pass rushers as a feature back…genuine answer.

Think that would achieve most of what they want. If OSU/UM is a barnburner, that could factor in, as well.

I've watched SC play all season, and I'll be surprised if they end up with only one loss. UCLA could beat them easily or lose just as decisively. It'll be shocking if UT doesn't win out impressively, so we'll be in the final six selection set and wait to see how everybody else jockeys for positioning down the stretch.

Interesting Joe Milton stat I just saw:

In two years, Milton threw for 5 TDs at Michigan.

Milton has thrown 5 TDs this year alone in only 25 passing attempts.

I know they've been in garbage time, or in 2nd halves with a lot less pressure, but still found that funny.

Milton’s ability to flick his wrist and throw 50 yards is going to have huge implications for the offense next year. Heupel will have massive chunks of green to work with when scheming up plays.

As I said in the spring, Harbaugh ruined Milton, but Heupel would fix him this year and still has a third year to work with him. 😆

Honestly I'm not sure why Hurd returned for 2016 season. I think both parties should have just left it after the 2015 season. I was at the opening game that year for App State and it was obvious Hurd didn't want to be there.

I think Butch was a manipulator and a terrible coach, but Hurd made the grown decision to come back for 2016 and if for no reason other than that and playing for his teammates he is more at fault for quitting imo.
Butch broke promises to both Hurd and DeBord imo. Only way to explain DeBord cutting ties after the season. Hurd did his own damage and I’m not excusing it, but this was the end result of Butch micromanaging. At some point you have to utilize your talent.

Hurd was also 6’4”. The days of the Eddie George back were already behind us, even in 14-16. He knew his NFL prospects were better at WR or TE. Hard to blame him for leaving, but quitting mid game is never the right move.
