If the committee needs to, they'll cherry-pick metrics in the final ranking to create exciting match-ups between high-profile brands. They want to drive ratings in all markets to boost revenue. UT is playing an exciting brand of football right now. If the Vols had played better against UGA, W or L, we likely wouldn't have dropped out of the top 4.

If we Sherman our way through the last two games, they'll have a path to put us at #3. IDT a #1/#4 SEC rematch would be as desirable an option as OSU/UM vs. UT. And if SC wins out and TCU implodes, some would find that fortuitous.
I didn't really think about it like this until now, but I believe we have 2 of the top 3 most watched CFB games this year, and play a very exciting brand of football. That can't hurt our chances if they are cherry picking metrics to justify someone being in or out.

Think that would achieve most of what they want. If OSU/UM is a barnburner, that could factor in, as well.

I've watched SC play all season, and I'll be surprised if they end up with only one loss. UCLA could beat them easily or lose just as decisively. It'll be shocking if UT doesn't win out impressively, so we'll be in the final six selection set and wait to see how everybody else jockeys for positioning down the stretch.

Yeah I just feel like looking at how the AP stacked the top 25 with half the Pac-12 it makes me feel like USC is going to be in that final six as well UNLESS they lose another game.

TCU is really under the most pressure I think. Could see Iowa State surprising them if they beat Texas Tech and that game is for bowl eligibility.

Interesting Joe Milton stat I just saw:

In two years, Milton threw for 5 TDs at Michigan.

Milton has thrown 5 TDs this year alone in only 25 passing attempts.

I know they've been in garbage time, or in 2nd halves with a lot less pressure, but still found that funny.

18.6 yards per attempt on the year. Just silly. And it’s basically all air yards too.

Exactly. To me the dream top 4 for the CFP committee would be as follows.
1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Tennessee
4. USC

Butch broke promises to both Hurd and DeBord imo. Only way to explain DeBord cutting ties after the season. Hurd did his own damage and I’m not excusing it, but this was the end result of Butch micromanaging. At some point you have to utilize your talent.

Hurd should have been our Brock Bowers

Boost revenue for who?

Maybe I'm missing a piece of the puzzle, but afaik the moneywinners of the CFP are conferences that get teams in. It's not like March Madness where the NCAA really profits (and even there I don't see a single NCAA employee on the committee).

There are only 2 of the 13 members that would appear to even have an interest in that - UK's AD and Michigan's AD. The rest are scattered throughout smaller athletics, academia, individuals from private sectors.

Somehow I just don't Kelly Whiteside, a professor at Montclair State...or Rod West, president of Entergy Corp. having much desire to sway their votes for some conferences or particular tv deals.

USA Today is projecting Clemson as the 4th playoff team- lol
Well, they are 6th in my rankings, very close to the same rating as Alabama, USC, Utah. 28th best Offensive Scoring average, 28th best Defensive Scoring average, 32nd SOS, and 6th best Opponents SOS.

If USC loses, whichever 12-1 ACC champ is left will likely be 5th, or make the playoffs if TCU loses.
