Unless it includes a 2-loss B1G runner-up...USC 2 loss...TCU loses...I mean they would need absurd happenings...regardless Clemson at #4 would mean us at #3.

They analyzed Clemson and USC as one loss conference champs. They believe USC will lose a game. But they say history says that the committee will favor a one loss conference champ over a one loss team that didn't win its conference.

So massive improvement on both sides of the ball in year 2, and from a talent standpoint we might be 2 good cycles behind the bulk of the SEC still.

This is very impressive and why Heupel still says our best football is ahead of us.

Man GTFO with this BS. You two have your back and forth if you want, but don't start slinging insults like that. It is well proven that the female posters who are regulars in here are far less argumentative and sensitive than the majority. So don't disrespect them to infer being female makes someone less than.

Calm down grandma -- if you perceived it as an attempt at humor - you perceived correctly. If you perceived it as an attempt to diminish females or disrespect them - it flew completely over your head. Now I am awarded the sensitive little flower award of the day to you. I am sorry you are dealing with menopause, but try not to lash out at those who are simply trying to offer up thoughts and opinions on a Vol sports forum. ;-)

Translation: Why did Tennessee fall out of the top 4 with a loss, but Georgia wouldn't, should they lose? It's a fair argument.
I do think the Vols fell too far after their loss for being a No. 1.

But I think the committee did that on purpose as they knew/hoped things in front of them would work itself out.

Not really. UT fell out of the top 4 because of comparatives to the other four that stayed in the top 4. You had 4 undefeated teams and a 1-loss UT. You can kind of understand UT falling to 5. Most UT fans discussed this stating immediately after our loss.

If UGA drops a game, who is left that should be above them? really, if you take quality of wins/losses, maybe UT. But UGA has the head to head over us.

You can't just say one loss now, and one loss then. You have to compare to the field at the time of the loss.

So, yah. UGA could most likely afford a loss right now, and there's no way a 1-loss UT could afford another one right now, which is the statement that was being questioned.

Hurd quit multiple times. Walked out, went home. Coaches went to Nashville to talk him back. Having to negotiate with a player to return is seldom a good situation. Demands are made; so are promises. It causes issues with teammates, hurts team chemistry, the initial problems don't go away and new ones arise. It was very unfortunate for all parties and not handled well on either side. It wouldn't happen today. UT wouldn't put up with it, and the disgruntled player would promptly portal out.

Agree that it wouldn't happen today. There was quite a bit of Hurd drama from day one within the confines of Anderson. Hurd was most definitely selfish and divisive. Butch was most certainly in over his head, especially when he stopped holding certain players accountable and then pitted parts of that locker room against others.

I think there is a pretty strong chance that the best 4 teams in the country are UGA, Michigan, Ohio State, and UT.

I also think there is a chance that only 2 of those teams get into the playoffs, which would be a tragedy.

Based on the current AP Poll.

1. Georgia 2-0 (TN/Oregon)
2. Ohio State 2-0 (ND/Penn State)
3. Michigan 1-0 (Penn State)
4. TCU 2-0 (OK State/Kansas State)
5. Tennessee 2-1 (W: LSU/Bama, L: GA)
6. LSU 2-2 (W: Ole Miss/Bama, L: FSU/TN)
7. USC 1-0 (Utah)
8. Bama 1-2 (W: Ole Miss, L: TN/LSU)
9. Clemson 1-0 (FSU)
10. Utah 1-1 (W: USC, L: UCLA)

What's kind of interesting is that in the current AP top 25 there are 5 3 loss teams ranked and 2 of them are Big 12 teams.

Pac-12: 6 ranked
SEC: 5 ranked
Big 10: 3 ranked
Big 12: 3 ranked
ACC: 3 ranked

Looks like the media is try to prop up USC. Of those 6 teams ranked in the top 25 for the Pac-12 only one of them is a 1 loss. They even snuck in Oregon State in at 25th.

Pac-12 games still to be played amongst the top 25 teams

(6) USC vs (16) UCLA
(6) USC vs (19) Notre Dame
(12) Oregon vs (10) Utah
(12) Oregon vs (25) Oregon State
