I’m getting here. I know a lot has to go right for a team to win a natty but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s as close as we’ll get for a long long time.

I'm optimistic. The veer and shoot was never properly "solved" when Briles was rolling with it and Heupel has added wrinkles to it since then. It's not a foolproof offense and it does need competent personnel, but I trust Heupel to keep using it effectively.

I also think that the defense will only improve over time and that Heupel will actually have better QBs than Hooker moving forward. Hooker is a great story but he's not as consistent as he could/should be. Eventually Heupel will land a Bryce Young-esque QB. Nico may be that guy.

It is the coaches responsibility to have teams prepared and motivated to play. Coaches teach and inspire. If those things are missing on game day to the degree it was last night, it’s on the coaches. It can be corrected but as one poster said, outside of LSU we’ve been terrible on the road. Our rabid fans inspire this team at home. Our coaches need to step up on the road.

Banks does not deserve another year at all wtf. This was an all time bad Kevin Steele 70 point level performance that deserves an immediate firing but maybe they’ll wait until after Vandy puts up 50 on us.
I’m almost where you are here. I will give him the last two games this season before being 💯 convinced.

Well...

"Was it NIL related? No I think the person on Twitter pointing out stepping on the T in the LR is spot on." - AP

This is hilarious. Did Banks stomp on it or something? Or did he absent-mindedly walk over it and Hooker blew up on him leading to a fight?

It sounds like an excuse and there was another reason for the fight. Another "fell on a helmet" situation.

It wouldn't be surprising to see UGA get the Peach Bowl, LSU the Sugar and Bama the Orange, with no SEC teams in the Fiesta, Rose or Cotton. UT opened the door to that scenario, not with two losses per se but because of the way the Vols played.
We'll still travel and we're a great tv draw. If we win next week (can't believe I'm phrasing it that way) I'd have to think the sugar bowl is certainly in play. They don't want LSU there. Bama might be the only concern. Imo.

I’d be even more annoyed if it’s the stepping on the T rumor vs the NIL problem rumor. I know the history with not stepping on the logo, that’s a golden rule in soccer too, but to let it escalate to this? That’s bush league all around. Both players can’t let it get to the point of whatever it got to. That’s ****ing disappointing.

Nah. It'll be Bama and UT as the only two loss teams. Lsu is either a 3 loss or flirting with playoff team. Which is funny to say. This shouldn't even be a conversation though. Tim Banks can go to hell for this **** defense. Smh. You got me fired up @LA Vol lol

Maybe. It could go any number of ways, and there are games left to win and lose.

Here's the reality-- the SEC helps decide bowl placement for member programs. It isn't a pure ranking process-- they look at geography, matchups and preferences. Sometimes, it comes down to which teams the conferences want where. Sankey will want the SEC's best-playing teams put in the best position to win to elevate conference standings. If Team A isn't playing as well as Team B at this point in the season and if Team A has injuries to key players while Team B is full-go, that can have an impact. Or not.

Yup. And this is where Hooker’s injury last night could end up costing us even more than the obvious. What a disaster.

Oddly enough, this loss has affected me very little. It's like my mind has gone back to where it's been for most of the last 10 years, shrugging off disastrous losses. I just don't know if fate will ever allow Tennessee football to truly be good.

Meh
This is me. I'm kinda like 'figures.'🤷‍♂️. It sucks, but it got to a point in the 3rd qtr where it seemed inevitable and we had no shot. I reached acceptance level... Quick. Lol
