Yeah I don't get this at all. With all the better candidates out there you settle for him?Wow...Cincinnati what are you doing? They take a step back there, and when they move to the Big 12 they may be looking for a new coach.
He's not done anything of note at Louisville and with the way the ACC has been the last few years he should have been able to win more than 7 games in a season there.
If we hadn't have been pegging losses, I'm not sure the university and AD would have worked to get us in the state we're in. The program will pretty much drift to the state of its win/loss record. Another way of stating that is that it'll float about as high as its level of competition. Why don’t you take your version of the Vols and join the MAC…. That way you can get the warm fuzzies from many victories…. My version of the Vols is not afraid of anyone and want to play the better teams…. It’s true we did lose to Bama for 15 straight years but we also were losing to Vandy, Georgia State, and many other losing programs…. Playing Bama didn’t hold us back… we held ourselves back.
Bring me this year’s Jahmyr Gibbs, one of those elite freshman A&M signed who wants to get out, Walter Nolen, a linebacker from somewhere, and all the DB’s. Throw in an elite receiver while you’re at it too. Thanks
Major red flag for me was that he made it about himself. "I'm coming" was literally the message. I'm coming. Screw you. I'll get us winning. (ETA: That's incorrect. "I'll get *them* winning.")Watched the Deion speech he gave his team. Couldn't make it through. Major clown energy. Like Lane Kiffin cranked to 11 and the dial broke.
But we'll see. Kids and people with money love him. You can make it a long way in this game with that.
Lol...it happens...you're definitely not an idiot...

I understand what he was trying to do. Establish a culture where he's probably been told one doesn't exist. But you have to be careful what culture you you replace the old one with.
I have a ton of respect for Heupel and the culture he's built at UT, and you can see the benefits. The whole is performing as greater than the sum of the parts. And he did it by establishing a selfless, team-centric, mutually beneficial culture.
It is the exact opposite of "it's all about me, what I will do, with or without you; I don't care which."
Heupel is all about, "Let's invest in you, to make an us. If you refuse that process, it's on you. But we're here to improve you, and as each of you grow, so does the team."
Much better than, "I have nothing for you if you can't benefit me. Be enough or be gone."
