Honestly I think as fans what we have to realize is that there is more benefit than just expecting new talent to start. It creates a competition in the secondary, Jordan Matthews, Sylvester Smith, & Rickey Gibson probably aren't starting day 1 next year. But what them being in bowl practice and/or spring camp will do is force the other guys like Wesley Walker, Kamal Hadden, Dee Williams, Andre Turrrentine, Brandon Turnage, Christian Charles etc. to start handling the small details.
Competition always pushes the players already present to work a bit harder in the off-season. They'll start getting a bit more sleep/rest, start watching a bit more film, start staying a bit later at practice to get more reps, or work on the jug machine. Jalin Hyatt's season this year was about what he was doing when the coaches weren't watching him and coaching him.
And if the incoming guys ARE good enough to earn starting jobs then you're still getting more talent on the field.
