I honestly wish I had the confidence in Joe like everyone else has.

I don’t necessarily think he’s gonna be hooker accurate but I believe the coaches can make him better and adjust he offense to him

I know a couple sports writers and I’ve asked them recently what they thought about the VOLS this year and it seems like it’s lining up with what’s happening as far as the Polls, and other awards.

Seems as tho they think TN runs a gimmick offense and that defenses next year will shut down TN and we will go back to being a 6-7 win team. Was told they think CH offense won’t last and that teams will go back and watch the Ga and SC games and see how to play press coverage on D.

I dont think its a gimmick, but he will need to adjust. These long bombs aren't going to be there all the time, we need more short crossers, slants, drags etc....

Hasn't that been said every year Heupel has been an OC/HC though?

1st year at UCF: 43.2 PPG (6th)
2nd year at UCF: 43.4 PPG (5th)
3rd year at UCF: 42.2 PPG (8th)
1st year at UT: 39.3 PPG (7th)
2nd year at UT: 47.3 PPG (1st)

I mean...when is this gimmick going to go away exactly?

I dont think its a gimmick, but he will need to adjust. These long bombs aren't going to be there all the time, we need more short crossers, slants, drags etc....

All goes back to running the football as well. Any modern passing game doesn't thrive without the threat or success of the run including the tried and true Pro Style.

I guess will see won’t we. They have seen it yrs now and looks like an average of at least 35 plus pts and with no defense from us. Wait till we get some type of defense plus these other teams are going to have dbs so that eliminates a few of them right of the bat. The running game is only going to get better also.

They said the same thing after the 1st year and into the offseason....but yeah keep on thinking that.

Nothing gimmicky about running the damn football and that’s what we do. All the casuals get fooled by all the WR highlights but we run the ball as much or more than everybody else we play. You can always find the ones who aren’t really watching when it comes to the Vol offense. They act like it’s a air raid Bc those highlights and splash plays have them fooled



The one guy who understood this was Kirby and he even talked about it. He’s like “guys they run the football. I know y’all don’t believe me but they do. That’s what allows the whole thing to work”. He’s spot on and ppl still don’t understand it.

I'm not saying that you believe what your UCF friend said but UCF fans might need to go check the numbers that say otherwise. Increased offensive performance every single year from year 1. 568 yards per game wasn't the issue at UCF.

You are correct. This is an up tempo, power run based offense. Anyone who thinks that what Heupel is doing remotely resembles the Air Raid just shows complete ignorance of both systems.

I'll be honest, I feel like the vast majority of National Media are just seeing the highlight clips ESPN shows after our games.

Some of them don't even realize that we were 19th in the country in rushing yards per game and 2nd in rushing TDs per game (Army the only team with more) that's while also having the 3rd ranked passing offense in yards that scored the 5th most passing TDs per game.

It's one of the most complete offenses I've ever seen...it's honestly more than just running tempo. Even though we were 22nd in most plays per game we were also first in most yards per play (let that sink in). So we're hitting teams with tempo, and volume, and big chunks of yardage AND still scoring TDs instead of FGs.

Georgia beat us because our OL **** the bed in what ended up being the hardest road game of the season. Penalty after penalty, missed block after missed block. They were rattled and it showed.

You guys can get your panties in a twist if you want. It is, however, possible to acknowledge Milton's struggles and that he hasn't lived up to his potential so far in his career, AND ALSO hope he figures it out and has an all-SEC season next year.

This. The "gimmick" is actually just exacting the principle that every good OC is trying to do: Spread the defense out and force them to declare their coverage.

The wide splits spreads the defense out from sideline to sideline and basically forces them to declare. It makes the LBs declare whether they will play in the box, or play for coverage. This opens up the running game or the passing game. Defense, pick your poison.

Then the long shots make it worse because then the offense is ALSO spreading the defense downfield.

It's not a "gimmick". It's offensive philosophy to its natural conclusion. Force the defense to cover the entire field. Create the matchups you want. Force the defense to win the matchup 1x1 in space.

As most sports writers, they think they know it all? They write for a reason...that is, they don't coach. How many years in a row does Heupel's offense have to be top 10 for them to figure out that it is not a gimmick?

Heupel will be in year 10 at UT with a Heisman candidate QB, and some dumb sports writer will keep spewing this.
