So this may ruffle some of the VOL faithful feathers.

I know a couple sports writers and I’ve asked them recently what they thought about the VOLS this year and it seems like it’s lining up with what’s happening as far as the Polls, and other awards.

Seems as tho they think TN runs a gimmick offense and that defenses next year will shut down TN and we will go back to being a 6-7 win team. Was told they think CH offense won’t last and that teams will go back and watch the Ga and SC games and see how to play press coverage on D.

So there ya go. Just food for thought on what a couple of National guys think.

We will learn a lot about CJH next year, maybe even during the bowl game. Clemson will have the DBs to play the same way and will he learn how to counter it is what I am looking for. This may explain the talk of them looking for more bigger WRs.

Absolutely.

My response was…. “Ya mean kinda like Spurrier”? And they both had this look! Lol

I was like “spurrier won a TON of games with a gimmick offense”

Crickets……

Thing is—someone is putting this out there to begin with. Most journalists just go with consensus. So, do we find the ultimate culprit and cut the head off this monster, or do we keep playing with the chip on our shoulder?
I say let ‘em talk. It makes winning more fun.

Our offense is not a gimmick, it is organized chaos. Sportswriters and even former players do not understand it because it is unlike anything anyone else does. No one has stopped it. Our offense is so organized that even our ball boys are trained to make sure our skill players get the ball back to correct refs to spot ball quickly.
Our offensive players are in better shape than other teams and better organized. We can flat wear teams out with our organization. Once we recruit just a little bit better athletes and get more depth on defense, we will be very hard to stop.

You guys can get your panties in a twist if you want. It is, however, possible to acknowledge Milton's struggles and that he hasn't lived up to his potential so far in his career, AND ALSO hope he figures it out and has an all-SEC season next year.
Nothing wrong with being concerned that he may not live up to his potential. There is something wrong with proclaiming it absolutely cannot happen. There’s really something wrong if you want to say it over and over and over. If he doesn’t I am sure the coaches will do what is necessary. Until then I am a big JM fan hoping he has a remarkable season. First, because that’s in our best interest. Second, he chose Tennessee and is a great leader and teammate.

I’d be happy to have Jeff Faris. Young fella played safety at Duke IIRC coached there awhile and now at UCLA. Got a few talented players at Duke as well. From Knoxville so it would be a fit one would think. We’ll see

I'll be honest, I feel like the vast majority of National Media are just seeing the highlight clips ESPN shows after our games.

Some of them don't even realize that we were 19th in the country in rushing yards per game and 2nd in rushing TDs per game (Army the only team with more) that's while also having the 3rd ranked passing offense in yards that scored the 5th most passing TDs per game.

It's one of the most complete offenses I've ever seen...it's honestly more than just running tempo. Even though we were 22nd in most plays per game we were also first in most yards per play (let that sink in). So we're hitting teams with tempo, and volume, and big chunks of yardage AND still scoring TDs instead of FGs.

Georgia beat us because our OL **** the bed in what ended up being the hardest road game of the season. Penalty after penalty, missed block after missed block. They were rattled and it showed.
Also, UGA's crowd/environment beat us as much as UGA did, in similar fashion to the UT/Bama win.

They’ve been saying that since Heupel was OC at Missouri. It is fair that if you have the horses in the secondary that you can throw a wrench in passing attack, make windows tighter, etc. but very few teams are able to.

Heupel still isn’t done tinkering. We saw things this year that we didn’t see last year. Under center, new formations, etc. It’s definitely not a one trick pony, gimmick offense. It’s evolving.

College needs to go to the Pass Interference rule the Pros use. Ball is placed at the spot of the foul. That will change a lot of what Georgia did.
Except Georgia didn’t even get called for PI, which was infuriating. Somehow they called it holding on the 2 or 3 times they called something.

Press coverage like Alabama and Mizzou tried? Thanks for their input. Noted… lol. And we scored 38 against South Carolina. Ask them about South Carolina. I bet they think Beamer is great too.

Joe Milton: 63.0% completion, 13.3 YPC, 7 TD, 0 Int, 217.7 rating
Sam Hartman: 63.0% completion 8.7 YPC, 35 TD, 11 Int, 160.2 rating

54 attempts vs 392 attempts though.

I'm all in on giving Joe the keys and let's go, but I think trying to share his stats this season is misleading. He only started 1 game, the rest were 4th quarter mop up duties against 2nd stringers.

4 of 8 for 108 yards and a TD against South Carolina in meaningful minutes
11 of 21 for 147 yards and a TD against Vandy in his only start

Im curious to see what happens if Milton struggles in the bowl game, do we go after another qb in the portal, does milton transfer out, does that open the possibility of a real qb battle this spring and fall. I think we would be fooling ourselves if we think there is a qb battle this spring/fall if Milton plays decent in the bowl game, but if he struggles that could possibly open the door for one
