54 attempts vs 392 attempts though.

I'm all in on giving Joe the keys and let's go, but I think trying to share his stats this season is misleading. He only started 1 game, the rest were 4th quarter mop up duties against 2nd stringers.

4 of 8 for 108 yards and a TD against South Carolina in meaningful minutes
11 of 21 for 147 yards and a TD against Vandy in his only start

It was less about Joe's stats than Hartman's. Is he good enough to pay "life-changing money"? If Joe doesn't work out, Nico should be up to speed by mid-season.

UT is in full-on win championships mode. DW meets with the HCs and asks them what they need to win championships. They tell him, and he goes to work making it happen. UT is already invested in master plan upgrades, facility renos and providing the resources programs need to win now. Capital improvements take a while because they have so many moving parts and involve third-party input that can bog down the process, But the needs of every marquee sport are being addressed, and the coaches are on board. Women's sports need to get back on track, but football, MBB and baseball are in good shape-- and in good hands.
That’s great to hear! Been a long time since everyone was pushing in the same direction on the Hill. Since Doug Dickey bolted for retirement. Thanks for the insight as always!

Joe Milton: 63.0% completion, 13.3 YPC, 7 TD, 0 Int, 217.7 rating
Sam Hartman: 63.0% completion 8.7 YPC, 35 TD, 11 Int, 160.2 rating

But he overthrew the receivers in the rainiest windiest game we played all year where he took over as the starter and only had a week to get full work with the ones!

Without knowing how much money that actually is it's hard to say. I think Hartman hasn't been given a good NFL evaluation...he's played 5 years in college already. So he is looking for one year at a spot that'll help get him a big chunk of change or is a brand where he can get more notice and attention.

I think for his size he's just not done enough to be a NFL QB honestly. He's not a dynamic runner, a sub 60% passer for his career, and hasn't shown great care with the ball (last two seasons he had 25 ints). But, if you're a team like TN where you have the "future" coming in (Nico) but you don't think he's going to be ready to play in year 1 and be competitive...a veteran QB might be a smart option.

But I feel like Hartman would most likely want a big brand where he can also go start...and with Joe returning that's not us.

“McCallan Castles is a Preseason All-American First Team back in 2021 and will look to continue earning those accolades in 2022. Before coming to UC Davis, Castles attended California, where he played three games. Before his college career, he attended Berthoud High School for two years and South Tahoe for another two. At South Tahoe specifically, he had an impressive two thousand yards and twenty-seven touchdowns for the school while also being a four-year letter winner in basketball, two in track and field, and one in baseball. At UC Davis, Castles is an Animal Science major.”

So this may ruffle some of the VOL faithful feathers.

I know a couple sports writers and I’ve asked them recently what they thought about the VOLS this year and it seems like it’s lining up with what’s happening as far as the Polls, and other awards.

Seems as tho they think TN runs a gimmick offense and that defenses next year will shut down TN and we will go back to being a 6-7 win team. Was told they think CH offense won’t last and that teams will go back and watch the Ga and SC games and see how to play press coverage on D.

So there ya go. Just food for thought on what a couple of National guys think.

I sincerely hope they keep thinking that. We have been playing on house money and winning big this season. With less talent and a lot of cast offs.

I must have missed something with USCe. I thought we scored 38 points and would have scored more if the D would have played. The UGA game was primarily on HH and officials letting d-backs hold and interfere.

What happens when spacing, tempo and even more talent hit the field with the current and even more "gimmick" plays?

There isn't a way to really stop what Heupel wants to do on offense. There will only be ways to tighten up the windows to make the big plays that his offense creates. That is exactly what UGA did and USC tried to do. The 38 points that were scored against USCe were more than enough to beat them normally. That was just a putrid defensive performance. As he gets more elite athletes on defense, continues to get speed at receiver and QB'S who have spent all of their college career in his system, those plays will be made no matter how much they press up on the outside.
Exactly!

Our offense is not a gimmick, it is organized chaos. Sportswriters and even former players do not understand it because it is unlike anything anyone else does. No one has stopped it. Our offense is so organized that even our ball boys are trained to make sure our skill players get the ball back to correct refs to spot ball quickly.
Our offensive players are in better shape than other teams and better organized. We can flat wear teams out with our organization. Once we recruit just a little bit better athletes and get more depth on defense, we will be very hard to stop.
Georgia contained it very well. I would say they stopped it. South Carolina got some stops but wouldn't say they came close to stopping it. We struggled at other times too but those were self inflicted.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong but I do remember being told by a UCF that one defenses adjust to his offense it bogs down now or less and the fans got frustrated with him.
The offensive numbers got better each year at UCF. Sounds like those fans were frustrated by a bad W-L record during the covid season and don't know football.
