I agree, but I'd caveat with, "He fits at a certain price $$$ point." And maybe they're willing to pay more for guys who they believe are better team fits vs talent alone. That's why they're willing to have a bidding war for a guy like Nico or Bru, but not for Zach Evans or this kid? Idk. I think we've beat the horse.

So who are we going to target now?
Yep that’s what I’ve been trying to say as well…..let’s move on. GBO!

Just wait until other teams really start tampering with our players. That's when it will really get frustrating.

Would you be pissed if I started looking for a job and they offered me a crazy amount of money at a different company and I took that opportunity instead eve if it was last minute? It's a business and the second you think of it like business then all decisions make sense moving forward.
I am a Vol...and I don't giva💩 where you work. I never said I was mad...I said "he ain't a Vol, so he ain't 💩 to me" and "f im"

Would you be pissed if you were playing for my team and you were doing great. Had a nice NIL deal and life was good. Then you tore your ACL and I told you to clean your locker out at the end of the semester. I mean it's strictly business.

The thing about this staff is, they believe you have to fit their system, thrive in their culture and earn your spot. The coaches will help a player find a path and guide them, but the player has to put in the work to achieve the goal. Even guys like Nico with big NIL deals have to earn it. Nico is competing with Joe, who competed with HH. TJ had the opportunity, but thought he could find a better path elsewhere. Milton kept competing.

Being a good player doesn't make someone a good fit at UT. The sooner UT finds out a guy isn't, the sooner they can focus on guys who are.

I view injuries a bit differently, but with as mercenary as college football is becoming, I'm not opposed to coaches being able to pull the scholarships of players that are underperforming. I just assume any NIL deal they have will suffer if they're not performing on the field.

I mean if it's a business, it should be a business both ways.

I used the injury analysis as an extreme to illustrate a point.
I think we've reached a point in college football where scholarships should not be guaranteed. Players shouldn't get it both ways. If they can get paid, then they should also have to earn their scholarship every year. If we're going to make it a "job", then it should have the same consequences as a job. Having your scholarship pulled because you didn't perform to a certain level would be a consequence.

That's exactly it. Programs keep players on the roster and in school when cutting them loose would free up a spot for someone who could contribute sooner or at a higher level. When there's a parting of the ways, programs like UT try to help players find a soft landing. Most coaches care about their players and try to build lasting relationships. It's not strictly business and never has been in college sports. It could be-- and most players wouldn't like that very much.

Something I love about this staff. And why some players with a bit more "dog" in them are really showing out above their stars/rating outta HS.

Aaron Beasley, Wesley Walker, Gerald Mincey, Da'Jon Terry, Doneiko Slaughter, Javontez Spraggins, Tamarion McDonald, Jabari Small

I just hope the attrition we had in the '21 class isn't something we see with every class. Cause you still need a good core group of players to help keep the culture the way you want it. (only 6 from that class are still with the team)

I think some level of attrition is just part of the new landscape. But getting buy-in from right-fit players and having strong player leadership should lessen the impact. Trying to identify and weed out the green grassers helps. Sometimes, guys just make the wrong choice and really would be better off elsewhere. But the guys who are always looking for something elsewhere instead of trying to find it where they are-- those are spot eaters.

Which is just one more reason why I expect the best really is to come. Doing things the right way.
