Concern-troll BOT saw an opportunity to take a shot while working "we" into his hit job. If a Vol fan had thought it, he would have let the original remark about Tee pass without comment. Which is to say: he would have identified with the positive portion and clear intention of the remark.

I'm always surprised when someone doesn't spot Troll-BOT's game from a mile away. Don't respond to him.

I love JJJ, and think he’s arguably the most important guy on the team. When he plays well, we win. When he doesn’t, we struggle. But, dude doesn’t look like an NBA player. He’s good at a lot of things, but not great at anything. Not sure what his calling card would be in the NBA. Also, think his knee is a serious concern that will limit his ability to play at a high level for much longer.

Injuries are always a concern with any player. I think JJJ has Draymond Green type abilities and they're about the same size. But some NBA teams keep spots on their team for those guys that can play 1-4 and are just good character players that work hard day in and day out.

I also think JJJ, Barnes, and UT were being overly cautious with JJJ and his knee. I don't know that he'll get drafted or even be in the NBA very long, but I remember when people didn't think Josh Richardson had a shot and he's had himself a nice NBA career. The per 40 between him and JJJ is damn near identical except JJJ is far more efficient (higher %) and rebounds better.

I actually think JJJ will go the Kim English route personally, having met the young man he's a highly intelligent guy who is very well spoken and knows the Xs and Os of the game well. Probably give professional ball 3-5 years and then get into coaching, but I think he'll log some time in the NBA is all I'm saying really.

Yeah, we will see what the future holds though. It could be those "big names" also want big money that we don't want to pay. And I certainly understand that. It can't be good to pay a dude more than what guys who have been loyal to the program are getting, without him proving himself to the team. Notable exceptions would be a position like QB.

This transfer from Ole Miss toyed with us last year too. He shopped himself around to the highest bidder and after a solid season he's shopped himself around again. Sounds like a selfish kid but idk. If he ends up here, cool, but give me 5 of those guys like the BYU transfer.
I hope Jeudy-Lally comes in and is a difference maker, but you talk about being "loyal" then cite a guy who is coming to his third program. Sadly, this is what college football is becoming in the NIL era. And the guys who display the most talent, who make impacts on the field, they'll have the opportunity to make the most money. Will that piss off teammates? Probably, but if they want in on the action, they'll have to up their performances as well. It's no different than the NFL where not everyone is paid the same.

And I'm not arguing for Igbinosun here. That ship has sailed. What I'm saying is big name talent will expect to be paid, and some of that talent will be worth it. So, for us to sit here and poo-poo that as "unfair" or "detrimental to the team", to try and claim some moral high ground, it's kind of ludicrous. This is what NIL has created. And it's okay to hate the new system, but if our ultimate goal is to be champions, which it should be, then we either adjust or accept we'll never quite reach that level. And given the choice, I'd rather adjust to the new system, because I want to see Tennessee win a National Championship again. Every fan should, IMO.

One last note, if another established school, like an Ohio State, had offered Jeudy-Lally a more lucrative NIL deal, I doubt he would be here either. Again, this is the system NIL has created. And without set guidelines, it's probably only going to get worse.

UT tried to help Igbinosun get in school to play spring ball and earn a starting spot, which he said he wanted. UT doesn't guarantee a starting spot to anyone. Some players simply overestimate their value. I wouldn't worry about this one. At all.

I'm not worried about Igbinosun. That ship has sailed. As long as Martinez does his job and the secondary improves next year, no worries. If the secondary continues to struggle like they did this year, Heupel will have a tough staffing decision on his hands. The secondary has to improve.

All of this is JMO, of course.

Your assessment is that every player that transfers has the same principles and motivations behind the reason they transfer? There are a number of variables involved in that decision. NIL will be A part of that decision for every player. That doesn't magically turn every transfer into the same box.

Good points. My thing is I believe it’s a balance. In this particular case, I believe our staff wanted Davison and was willing to pay him well and take care of him. I also believe they weren’t willing to get into a bidding war with other big time schools because we weren’t that desperate plus it reveals a little more character(what’s important) about the individual you are pursuing. Either way it’s all good and we will be much better.

Actually, last minute flips (with bags in play) have always happened in recruiting.

I'm more concerned about gripes about the portal hurting our enthusiasm for Spyre than I am worried about some meta-level hand-wringing about the sport.

OSU is pushing their NIL to the max. So are lying Saban and Bowl Cut (with assistance from their media syphocants). Don't listen to their "concerns" in their speeches and be deceived. Watch their deeds, and know.

Moar steam!

Doesn’t sound like our staff is willing to bring in guys like this(some of Texas A&M recruits). Their priority is the money/themselves and not the team. It’s a tough challenge for college football coaches. There has to be a balance. Yes you want to take care of your players($$$) both they need to be focused on getting better and the welfare of the team. I feel like our coaches are doing a solid job filtering through. Plus there will be more options after spring.
We've already brought in guys like this. Everyone seems to ignore that we've had players ready to hit the portal because they weren't happy with their NIL deals. Jaylen Wright did it not long ago and Spyre placated him.

I just hope Jaylen Wright plays like NFL RBs when they are in the last year of their contracts... lol

Frustrating when these guys try to strong arm to get more NIL and then disappoint (Tyler Baron FOR EXAMPLE).

Because we know what kind of player/personality they truly are on a daily basis. I don’t believe Jaylen all of a sudden wanted a 6 figure deal. He just wanted something. Our coaches will go to bat for guys who perform at UT.

I don’t see many players that Bama or UGA take openly parade around the country at schools looking for NIL. If a player truly wants to be at your school, the NIL will work. Otherwise, he’s just looking for the best deal, which is contrary to what our coaches are looking for.

Yea, I'm pretty sure he's a tree-killing, tea-bagging, sucker-punching Gump (Bama fan).

Yep and this is why you don't want to make a living in the portal. HS recruiting is still where we need to make hay. The portal is to plug holes. Regardless of need, it appears Heupel is being somewhat selective. I'd rather take my chances with a freshman than take a guy who might be a detriment to the room.

Milton and Bru both seemed very mature...they had already been yo-yo'd a bit in college and were just looking for a place and staff that felt like family. We're lucky they picked us and I think they're lucky DW picked Heupel.
Both players were also seen as "broken" to a degree. With Milton, some of our own fans still doubt him. Lots of people were skeptical he could be "fixed". And Bru was thought of as a bit of a headcase. Committed to Texas, then transferred to USC, got into legal trouble and then finally came here. The point being, both were limited in options, but Heupel was willing to take the risk and it worked out well. These are college age young men. Almost all of them have issues of some sort. And yet we fault the ones who have kept their noses clean and have NIL options they can pursue.

It sucks when we're not the choice. And like I said before, I'm a bitter a-hole that gets mad about it and I won't wish them well. But I also understand it, and it doesn't make them bad players, and it doesn't mean they wouldn't have fit here, or any of that other BS we like to tell ourselves.

Baron made a mistake. He focused on the short term and the NIL vs the long term and the NFL. Can't serve 2 masters. Hope he gets his head on straight and gets his game/development back on course, but so far, it's not looking so promising.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not much into skyping myself.....
