Yup, UNC was literally 17-7 this time last year lol. Still made the title game.

March Madness is just a total luckbox.

We just have to hit the right dials 6 games in a row...and the right row. Shoot, we won 8 in a row heading into Michigan last season, including steamrolling the SEC tourney...


..just not the right 8 in a row literally just so much luck and timing involved it's almost laughable.

Problem is this team doesn't like to be bodied up on. When refs let the other team beat them up, they don't do well. The tournament is extremely physical. They're not built for a tournament run. Don't get me wrong, they're a very good team but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Yes we have our issues, but this is a relatively very good offense. We need to prime up for neutral courts. I hate the away-game disadvantage at the college level and would expect vets like Santi and JJJ to overcome them. We still have 6 weeks...

I don't care where we are ranked..really good consistent offenses do not have this horrific type of game this many times a year. Stats lie or rather are very misleading sometimes and you know it.

They get streaky hot quite often and that skews the stats, and their elite plus defense helps with that too.

They are not a horrible offense overall, and I did not imply that they are...I said they are overall average. If they did not have so many horrific shooting games they would be way above average.


Either way...this team is not winning the NC and the undependable offense will be the reason why. They will have one of these games in March and it will be over.

Ive been begging for JP to take over at times all year. Hes honestly the difference between this team going deep and it falling flat.

If he’s gonna assume that role, he needs to start now. This February stretch run will be a good proving ground to see if he’s capable of it at this point in this career.

I know home court is ridiculous but this game has given me the sadz. No excuse for how lousy we've played. No focus at all.

From start to finish and why it was the first game of the season I turned it off within the first 15 minutes. I knew how it would be at the end.

This team has first round upset written all over them. Especially if we face a team of hot shooters and the refs go whistle heavy on us on defense. We'll be toast.

Probably...or they could get hot at the right time and mop the floor with everybody in our path. When this team shoots well...we blow people out.

True. But CBB is arguably one of toughest to win. Takes luck, and skill. One loss against a crappy Florida team doesnt matter much in long run. But, if its a barometer of future success, we have a LOT of work to do.

It is laughable.

But we know a few things are true, in any order:
> you have to have elite defense to force the other team to take low % shots
> you have to get lucky that the other team can't hit those low % shots
> you have to hit your high % shots, you have to have someone(s) that can hit key shots in big moments

I've seen teams win the rebound and turnover battle and still lose because they couldn't do those three things. I've seen teams that do those things for a whole season and have one off night cost them everything.

The first point has been a constant for us, the second point has worked in our favor thus far honestly, the third point is the one we struggle with. Maybe one of our guys turns into Mr. March and we get our clutch guy. Until we can make shots we have a glaring hole in an otherwise would-be elite team.

They didn’t need to shoot 70%. But they could have done much better. Are we still one of the best? Remains to be seen. This team has all the earmarks of the usual early exit TN team in March.

That's fair. Barnes' Vols just have this weird tendency to come out FLAT like they just drove to the game from a funeral. It doesn't happen a ton, but it happens enough to sew doubt that they can steamroll 6 worthwhile opponents in a row. It's frustrating.

Gee, maybe enjoy the IMMENSE success from season beginning to end? Each and every game.

Spending a month at #1, regular season titles, an SEC tourney title...yet some would trade 28+ wins a year for making the EE once a decade while going 17-14 on average

Good stuff! She was serious when she gave a promise to their parents to watch over them.

We've got the team/Pat signed poster of Day of a 1000 Stories in our media room. We took our daughter to get the poster and meet the players. She made every team member sit out in the heat on campus before a football game sign and thank every person that came by for like two hours. If they started to complain, she would give one "Pat stare" and they would immediately clam up. I smiled at her and she just rolled her eyes with frustration.

Is this a good team? Yes. Is it an elite team? Probably not. Super strong in one area and is mediocre in another. Usually the NC teams rank top 25 or so in both in Ken Pom metrics. Vols do not. Doesn’t mean we can’t get to a sweet 16 and have a good season. Losing in the first two rounds though wouldn’t setup well after the last 2 march outings. Let’s hope for a sweet 16 at the least
