Ok the more I look at it, the easier the answer is - it's just not possible for all teams IF the arena wants B2B games, which surely they would for various cost and packaging reasons.

Think of it this way, in Orlando Thursday were 4 winners:
Furman - played 1st noon
SDSU - played 2nd ~230

Duke - played 3rd ~7
UT - played 4th ~930

And this goes for every region. So there's just no way for all teams to keep their consistency. And even moreso because in the 2nd rd the games are night heavy. 6 of the 8 games start at 4:30 or later.

But again - I'm really glad we got an earlier tip. The noon game would have been even better. This team just needs to go play, I worry we get in our heads too much. We don't need to be sitting around thinking about big bad Duke. Just wake up and get to it.

I understand. But look at the times- ours is the only stand alone session. The others are staggered at 5:40. 6 games after that. And…the central time zone has the latest game when there is a western site.

Hopefully we don't go the final 12 minutes only scoring two field goals against Duke. That is not a recipe for success

To be fair to the team, we also had 7 late possessions that ended with us going to the free throw line.

Partly the few number of FGs was us being ahead and them fouling a lot, both intentionally and stupidly lol

That's one of our biggest issues, consistently hitting the shots we should be (NM turnovers, but that's a different issue)... If we don't, which is more likely the case based on the past month and clearly last night, we're burnt toast. We know we can't count on making those hard FT.... SMH

We CAN beat Duke, it's pretty simple, just show up and play the Bball we are capable of and how we executed the first half of the season. We do that and we can win by double digits. Choice is theirs... show up or don't. We'll find out tomorrow.

My main hope is the ACC is just trash. OOC they lost to both Purdue and Kansas. Did beat Xavier but that's it.

Just going by the eye test. Teams are all pretty much the same in college basketball. Parity is king. Its who is playing well at the time. Duke is, we are not.

Our boon in this matchup is our ability to match their size defensively.

That could very easily bother them.

I am nervous about Jeremy Roach. We'll because he's a PG and a good one...and we don't have a PG lol

I'm honestly not sure how we'll play against Duke...

They have 2 7' guys that start for them, the only team we played with that size was Arizona and it went poorly. We at least get Duke on a neutral court though.

Santi and JJJ both gotta score 12 or more though and then we'll probably need 2 or 3 other players to hit double digits. I think Louisiana was a good team to start with, they were a top 50 scoring team with a legit inside big with a few smaller/quicker guards. They also got to play as physical as they want for some reason...we should expect Duke to be allowed to do the same thing.

Duke has Roach and Blakes for smaller quicker guards, but otherwise they are built with size and length and less speed. On paper us without ZZ that's the type of team we should play better against.

Now that Aidoo has come on defensively and with Awaka providing valuable minutes, I think we can match up, along with Uros of course.

We looked like monsters out there last night vs Louisiana. Our defensive hands seemed everywhere blocking and changing shots.

Vols also got to play physically. Advantage Vols. Would be same way for Duke game. At this point the team needs games to be physical and ugly. Offense has no rhythm without ZZ and even with ZZ, unlikely to out score an opponent in a free-flowing, up and down game.

They said last night something about our assists:TO ratio post-ZZ.

Wasn't quite as bad as they said. Just looking at the 4 games since we are at 1.17. Would be good for 80th nationally. Almost the 80th percentile in CBB. Now before we were at 1.42, good for 20th...so it is a drop. But we are still better than most. And that was vs 3 of 4 teams playing in the big dance.

I fully agree his ball handling is missed. Seeing Mashack run the PG almost gave me a heart attack.

Just gotta hope our bigs stay out of foul trouble. It's not just a "they'll foul out, gotta sit them down" but when you have just 1 foul to give you start playing less intense and your defense suffers. So if Uros, Aidoo, ON, and Awaka can keep the fouls under control and still defend Duke's bigs tough we got a shot.

I'm not sure who Duke's best perimeter defender is, but I'm sure Santi will have him guarding him the whole time.

This is logical and reasonable. We all see that Duke appears to be the better team right now, and if the trends observed from them and our Vols over the past few weeks continue, they probably win the game. But anything could happen. None of our players had great offensive games yesterday...it could happen tomorrow.
