– Reggie Jackson drove in 10 runs with his 21st and 22nd homers, a double and two bases-loaded singles Saturday as the Oakland Athletics trampled the sloppy-fielding Boston Red Sox 21-7.

Its gonna be extremely hard for anyone to get past Wake. Those guys seems to be playing on a different level. . . but, the Vols have been surprising lately, especially on the road. Hopefully we keep putting things together and keep surprising. Reading the comments on the early season games, I would've never thought we'd sniff Omaha.
You know what was hard?...anyone getting past our team last year...yet they did...and the team that got past us didn't even win it all.

The team that did win it all was a team that had underperformed all year (according to pre-season expectations) and that we had destroyed in-season...

Just sayin...🤷‍♂️

Are Mikel and Saleapaga backups in case we miss out on multiple targets?

We get to see them play their senior seasons, if we miss on guys, we push for them. Just curious both visiting Nov 18.

also, @allvolrecruiting i was looking on 247 and noticed a new DL visiting that we are “warm” with, Quintavius Johnson. Visiting this weekend. Anything on him?

Exactly. Check logic at the gate of the ball park and enjoy the games.

Nobody had Ole Miss last season and Missy State the season before winning the trophy. Just getting there was never predicted for either based on past performance.

It's baseball...

That MSU team was very similar to this Tennessee team imo. Phenomenal pitching with average hitting. Their pitching kept them in games.

To get to the finals against Vanderbilt, this was MSU's game-by-game outcome:
W 2-1
W 6-5
L 8-5
W 4-3

Then they opened a can on Vanderbilt in the final.
L 8-2
W 13-2
W 9-0

On any given day, especially in baseball

Averages between 2021 Miss State and 2023 Vols Baseball:
Hitting -
School. BA. HR. RBI. SO. BB.
State. .278. 75. 473. 455. 306.
Vols. .285. 125. 452. 563. 342.

Pitching -
School. ERA. H. SO. HR. OBA.
State. 4.04. 494. 817. 72. .220.
Vols. 3.57. 450. 708. 72. .223.

State's stats should include Omaha. But they're very similar. Vols actually have a higher BA, lower ERA, more HRs. But, more batting strikeouts, fewer pitching strikeouts, fewer RBIs.

Pitching is what's going to keep us in it, with timely hitting. I like that we've earned more walks. A way to get guys on base with struggling hitting. Means more opportunities to score and get bonus runs. In the postseason so far we've had some of our most important runs from guys that got on base with walks.

Good summary and I agree. They were the least likely in that field to do anything...until they did.

Just find a way to get there and play to your strengths. Not going to be playing in a HR friendly park along with the pitching typically being stronger. Focus on opposite field hitting on the outside pitches and stop falling into the ball. Go with the pitch and hit it hard that way, keep the hands in. Not saying to play small ball, just play for the alleys and focus on barreling up on it instead of going for the fences. Use the team speed on the base paths.

This team is resilient. It's a great season already, hope they can make it greater.

Another good illustration IMO. Good OBP and pushing pitch counts up on the starters is critical in college baseball because it stresses the pitching and defense. It's more like a minor league ball comparison since the players and pitchers are still developing.
