I don’t believe so unless Jay Johnson wants to be that guy. Maybe a few batters, but that is still something that would get him criticized.
They aren't going to get eliminated without throwing Skenes out there at some point.

Then Jay Johnson will risk his future. The Southern Miss coach got greatly criticized for throwing Hall to start their Monday final regional game after he threw 120+ pitches on Friday. That will tell you what kind of coach he is.

I don't recall anyone, that I've heard, criticizing the Stanford coach for allowing Mathews to throw 156 pitches against Texas.

I know what you're saying, but I see no problem in Skenes coming in as relief tomorrow if needed. Skenes would agree.

He can pitch Thursday. But if they lose, and he pitches tomorrow…oh boy.
If I’m the LSU coach I risk the criticism. You can’t be in an elimination situation and sit the best pitching prospect in a generation, at least in a relief/long relief outing. You empty the clip IMO….

Law talks about Matthews’ pitch count in the comments.

Go for it. If he somehow gets injured, only NIL money will bring you high end pitchers again. Bringing him in to throw more than ~ 20 pitches on 2 days rest? Yikes.

If I'm Skenes or his parents I tell the coach to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Dudes the first or second pick. He just threw 120+ pitches Saturday. That wouldn't be criticism it would be malpractice.

Let's be honest....you had to go looking for it though, right? Someone is always going to complain or disagree about anything. You got my point, man. Skenes being the first reliever to come in for LSU tomorrow is perfectly fine. Just so happens it's unfortunate for us. Haha.
