That's me. Got my heart calcium score and it's very bad. I run 15 miles a week, don't smoke, hardly drink. It sucks.

Most of us are deficient in magnesium, which is a major controller of where calcium goes. Dr. Thomas Levy's "Magnesium - Reversing Disease" talks at length how magnesium is the antidote to Stupid Calcium Tricks.

From a discussion on here a few weeks ago - it seems a ton of that stuff has to do with inflammation, regardless of whether or not you eat well otherwise.

Wonder if a low-GI diet would help over time.

Missed the convo from a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve been going to a functional medicine doc for the past two years, and it’s been life-changing. Still go to my GP, and he’s great, but in combination with functional medicine - and the changes to my diet that were prompted by the food sensitivity testing - I feel a lot better, and my labs from my annual physical are coming back much improved.

Inflammation is absolutely key. Allergies/sinus issues are basically gone, joint pain is gone, gut issues are significantly improved, I sleep better, and energy levels are higher.

I thought I took decent care of myself before I started with functional medicine, but there’s no comparison in how I feel.

I’ve often wished my parents had known about this. So many of their health issues in life were undoubtedly exacerbated by poor diet and an overly inflamed system.

I’ve also found it intellectually stimulating to get a better understanding of how my body operates.

Y'all.. It's freaking hot.

Why was Spyre not already doing this? The primary issue thus far has definitely been that the average UT fan doesn't know what Spyre (or even NIL) is.

While I guess this was the official announcement, Heupel was touting Spyre on the video board during last season. I saw it at the Mizzou game.

What's a functional medicine doc?

What sort of recommendations did they make? What kind of dietary changes have you made?

That’s more advanced than what I am referring to…. Last night, my son pitched at All Star practice…. My son hadn’t thrown a bullpen in a few days so he was a little rusty….. the coach told my son that he doesn’t care about pitching fast…. Just throw strikes…. Then he tried to switch his two seam fastball to a four seam bc a four seam goes straighter….(no sh&t) my son gets some decent movement on his two seam…. He throws it for strikes and velocity is nearly identical between the two…. He then tried to change his curveball…. Didn’t like his grip even though it is above average for our league…. I left practice pissed off…

They do need to do more intense studies to find out a way to protect young players arms…. A lot of the data is based off assumptions… you are probably correct that it is the intense torque that players do with their arms nowadays. Good luck working with your son.

Thank you. How old is your son? Also, sounds like overcoaching for sure. Throw the 2 seam and only go 4 seam if he wants to do it. If your son is under 13, I would caution on the curve ball especially if not throwing from 60 6. If he is doing it at a shorter distance then it is going to be tough to fix the break when he moves back to 60 6 and ball will break earlier than it needs to and can get hammered. If he is 12 or 13 and you can find a good pitching coach that can teach him a good slider that uses pressure points with his fingers with less wrist turn, it can be a real effective pitch for a third pitch instead of a curve ball. He will need long fingers however. Most college and my son's pitching coach ( who works with some mlb guys in the off season and spring training would caution curves before 13 or 14 and never start with the smaller mound difference. If a kid is throwing well and a coach wants to tinker just to make himself look smart, then you have a right to be ticked off.

I mean…..for actual pitching, throwing strikes is most important.

1) no offense but highly unlikely your kid ever throws 90mph much less 96+mph which is about when you can worry a little less about location

2) doesn’t matter how hard you throw if you can’t throw strikes

Idk how old your kid is, but he should hold off on throwing any off speed besides change up for as long as possible.
