Would love to know the true effect of the negative recruiting against us regarding a possible bowl ban. Specifically if any players would have committed to us had that not been lingering, and if any current prospects are changing their mind and leaning UT now that they know it’s not on the table.

Obviously we’ll never know but I’m really curious about it.

I consider the bold to be egregious. And if the university can appeal, I hope they do.
Can we appeal? Idk the recruiting visits and communication stuff sounds like it would really hurt. Everyone sounds pleased with the results but the recruiting hit here seems pretty bad to me.

The NCAA can't set UT's football budget. Slash the football budget to $0 and run a 100% unfavorable budget variance. Problem solved.
I doubt it’s that simple but would love to discuss further since I’m honestly not knowledgeable about how this works. Where’s my posters that like to pull ncaa legislature/rules excerpts?

No idea. I’m pleased with no post season ban and fine with the scholarship reductions, but not pleased with any of the rest of it. I don’t think we can afford to not evaluate, recruit, and host prospects for months out of the year. And the part about our football budget seems like a monster money grab. I’m pissed at that, like can they even do that?

I was talking with a P5 coach, he said teams like UT with organization like Spyre will clean up in portal. He told me of one P5 team that is shifting entire recruiting strategy to buying players through portal. He believes that HS signing will become less important in the next few years for bigger schools. They will have their choice of portal players
I've always felt this way. It just makes too much sense.

Don’t worry about evaluation time. That’s completely unenforceable.

The visit stuff is more than we had hoped for, but once you factor in time-served and spread the remainder over 5 yrs, it’s actually less than we’ve already been self-imposing. Annoying, but not that damaging.

The fine and other monetary penalties are outrageous. We’ll see what comes of that.

Exemplary cooperation
The violations in this case came to light when an athletics department staff member informed the office of the chancellor about a conversation the staff member overheard in the football program about student-athletes being "paid." The school immediately retained outside counsel and began an investigation. Within three weeks, the school confiscated cellphones of several staff members, preserving critical phone and text records that supported violations. The former director of compliance also visited local hotels, restaurants and other businesses to obtain receipts and surveillance footage, and then personally reviewed that footage.

The school notified NCAA enforcement staff of the need for further inquiry and imposed significant corrective measures just a few months into its investigation, including terminating several coaches and staff involved in the violations and implementing scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions.

"Under the strong leadership of its chancellor, Tennessee acted swiftly, thoroughly and decisively," the panel said in its decision.

During the hearing, the enforcement staff stated that the fully formed record in this case would not have been possible without Tennessee's significant efforts to secure and develop information.

"Tennessee's cooperation throughout the investigation and processing of this case was exemplary by any measure," the panel said. "Although this case involved egregious conduct, (Tennessee's) response to that conduct is the model all institutions should strive to follow."

We're the teacher's pet. lol. Donde and Danny need to take a bow.

I think some people are missing that part

The more people see this the more the hand wringers find the dark clouds. ITS OVER. Nothing in there will hurt recruiting or results moving forward. If you "vacate" games you won on the field does anyone think that changes the fact you WON them on the field. It's just paperwork. Who cares.
Yup, if our rivals are complaining about the penalties we ultimately received, it's a win for us.

I don't like more scholarship reductions. The rest I can live with. Though given our level of cooperation, it seems steep.

The should offer Pruitt a chance to lessen his show-cause by turning state's evidence on Bama, and possibly Georgia. He knows how that cheating machine works.
Lol, GA and Bama are the reason we got what we did. You don't beat Saban without consequences. Ask Hugh.

Alright guys, some more reading material to get us through the last few weeks before Fall Camp.
