At this point, even if some great secondary hits the portal after bowl season, I have to wonder if we would pursue them? Despite defense being our obvious weakness, it seems we're mostly going to rely on freshmen to try and fix it.
Did you forget that we added a LB “out of nowhere”? Just because AP doesn’t list a DB doesn’t mean we’re not going to add one.

$100 says we add a DB next month.

Finally getting around to sharing my Christmas gift from my dad. Gotta get this in a case. And if anyone recognizes the signature sans number, let me know. Doesn’t look like Fulmer’s, but no number makes me think coach. Chavis?

How so? He's literally only lost one open QB competition in his career. 2019 vs Rudolph. In 2018 he won a QB competition for the backup spot when everyone thought he was a goner. In 2020 it was the covid year so there was no preseason. In 2021 he performed well before getting hurt. Then this year he played as well as anyone in the preseason with performances that were so good a lot of Cleveland fans and even media observers were calling for him to start over Brissett.

I would argue that outside of his rookie season Dobbs has been good to great in the preseason. Even in 2019 he played well. Rudolph just had better success. But there's literally been no time outside of his rookie season where Dobbs looked out of place in real game action. The fact he hasn't been able to stick on a team as the unquestioned backup is more a result of circumstance than him not performing when given a chance.

Are you seriously gonna argue that Dobbs did something wrong this past year to not stick on the Browns roster? He was damn near flawless in the preseason. He just keeps getting the short end of the stick. You act like Dobbs has been Nathan Peterman when given chances.

I've already made a broken down list in previous posts. We've covered the same ground more than once. I'm not bothering to do so again, in this post or any other moving forward.

I will agree he has generally, and with the Browns in particular, shown some game in preseason. (his preseason passer rating was 96.3) Note that my observations aren't based on "why" any coaching staff comes to the decisions they do but the results are there for anyone to see. As I've stated in a couple different posts his landing on this particular Titans team at this time with only a very iffy 3rd rnd rookie ahead of him and two games left might be as good an opportunity as he's likely to get.
