If we did and you did say "I told you so," that would be the kinda thing where a punch to the face would be well earned. :) I think 7-5 would surprise that many people. It's not impossible but that would def. be a disappointment.
I would be disappointed...how much depends on circumstances.

Surely to goodness their DC was just sandbagging and blowing smoke...if they are really not preparing for the special circumstances incurred in facing our offense, then they are freaking screwed.

If you're UVA's coaching staff do you treat Tennessee like a winnable game or do you use the time for games you think your team can win? UVA has never been good at football but they can sometimes be mediocre and bowl eligible. He may not want to say that but UVA is probably better off using that practice time for opponents and games that are more manageable. Kirby had to win last year for UGA to have a successful season but for UVA - they need to win some conference games and some games against lesser opponents. Asking them to take down a top 10 team is a bit much.

If you are going to take down a better team, W1 is the week to do it...

Oher signed a paper so the Tuohys could get paid in his name without the NCAA sniffing around. Of course, there was no adoption. That would've complicated an easy setup. The question is whether he's just mad because the movie made him look stupid or if he really did believe at one point that they were his family. I can see both sides of that - him being happy as a recruit to let these people be the cover for funneling the money and then hurt when he gets portrayed as a fool but also him genuinely trusting them and thinking they were just there for him (though I admit I have a harder time buying that one - Ole Miss people of that age range aren't known for taking in underprivileged unathletic black kids).

Regardless, I'm sure it's messier than any of that but anyone who follows recruiting (and especially now after everything with Freeze and OM is out in the open) knows the likelihood of it ever being just about good people taking in a good kid was a lie. Everyone was out for something. When it's Memphis and by god Mississippi interfering with things - it always ends with corruption and hurt.
It's probably in the middle, as things usually are. The family didn't 100% only care about money and his ability to help ole miss, but they probably did not care 100% about him either.

I think we can all agree if he didn't have pro potential and had no way of helping ole miss football, that family wouldn't have given him the time of day. But I'm sure they weren't cartoonishly evil devils who laughed at how stupid he was in letting them trick him either.

Let's be cautious about speculating. His filing is just an allegation. Regardless of what anyone thinks about the situation, Sean Tuohy didn't need Oher's money. He has plenty of money that he has made on his own.

Oher played 8 years with 3 different teams and signed roughly $62 million in NFL contracts (even though NFL ones aren't all guaranteed). His last contract with the Panthers was 3 years at $21.6 million ($9.5 million guaranteed), which was his best contract of his career. What I have listed are facts, and we will see what comes out of it.
I agree with you about speculating especially about speculating in extremes....but people who don't need money take advantage of others all the time to get more money.

Personally I'm guessing they saw a chance to help a kid out while also helping out ole miss and while also pocketing some money. Not completely altruistic, but not completely evil either. But again, that's speculation with hardly any facts beyond having seen human nature act out many times before and "the strong family resemblance in all misdeeds."

IDK, the Touhys are pretty close to cartoon devils in their own right (without Oher even being in the picture). Even OM fans will tell you they're shady as hell.

If they spent 4 weeks in depth preparation for our offense they still have about a 99.5% chance of a double digit loss. Probably a risk/reward allocation of time and resources to attempt to have a decent season in the ACC

Pretty much exactly how I feel...except I think 8-4 is the most likely...simply because too much new/unproven skill and too much thin on offensive line....I also fear the injury bug will hit us hard this year.

So..I could also see 7-5 to 11-1 depending on circumstances.

I hope my gut feeling about injuries is a bean dream nightmare....I hope Doc is right and I am wrong...I really do. I hope we go 15-0 and these concerns look stupid in retrospect.

But...if we end up 7-5 I promise I will not be saying I told you so.
Very possible.

But my season predictor is right at 8.51 wins, so 9-3 it is 😁

Mostly comes back to schedule...same as FPI having us at 8.2 wins...imo we're only dogs (rn) vs 2 teams. But it's the field of 60/40 or 2/1 games where we'll find our trip up(s). Just a (an optimistic) guesstimate.

But I think the "10-2/11-1 or bust" folks are ignoring the fact we just lost our closest thing to a Heisman since Peyton and our first Biletnikoff e-v-e-r. Otherwise we'd be top 5 or even 3 and booking tickets to the playoffs. Them plus a host of other NFL draftees and OL stalwarts is just a big overhaul. And HH...just can't say enough how huge he was here. Best UT qb all-time and not close.

They should do a light show with projected ghosts and ghouls on the field next time we have a game on Halloween.
Eh, I don’t know about all of that. But I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to refute the “buried bodies”.

“Are there dead bodies buried under Neyland?”

Play up the “we can neither confirm nor deny” schtick.

Let the fanbase (and opposing fanbases) run with it.

Neyland used to serve as storage. That's a fact.

Whats the record for most players drafted from UT in a single year?

I think we have like 30 seniors this year. We could have 10 or so drafted in my estimation...

Best bets:

Bru McCoy
Omari Thomas
Javontez Spraggins
Joe Milton
Tyler Baron

Strong potential to get picked:

Doneiko Slaughter
Wesley Walker
Aaron Beasley
Ramel Keyton
Tomarion McDonald
John Campbell

Underclassmen who could potentially declare and have a shot::

Donte Thornton {strongly believe he's a one and done here}
Jaylen Wright (definitely think it's his last year here)
Gerald Mincey (I don't really see it but multiple podcasts have suggested NFL scouts have been checking him out)

Didn’t they win a national championship in the 80’s? I know I could use google, but I like to take my memory out for spin every once in awhile, even if I end up being wrong.

UVA is good at men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball but I don't think they've ever won anything in football. I think you're thinking of their women's basketball team because they were who Summitt was chasing before she finally won a title? IDK though. If they ever got good at football they'd have one of the better ADs though.
