Basilio dropping some 100% accurate nuggets:

  • OL is a greater concern than the coaches are revealing to the public.
  • The coaches have noticed there are not many “whiffs” on the new guys. Recruiting evals were accurate which leads to the next point.
  • Coaches feel that the younger guys will contribute on defense as the season progresses. (Sounds like he’s hinting at the secondary).

Offense moves too fast for me to be worried about OL. Especially as games go on.

I’m going to bet between the second scrimmage and Virginia there will be reports of the OL “coming together” and “making progress”.

To this point the coaches have been trying different combinations, but after the next scrimmage they’ll turn to Week 1 prep and have a more settled rotation, which will lead to continuity.

This article has me thinking. If Milton doesn’t show the progress we think he is going to make, and if he does struggle, how long would it take, and what would it take, for Heupel to consider starting Nico instead? I know it is unlikely we have to worry about it, but still makes me wonder

I think Milton would have to be injured for Nico to start. Even if he's struggling, I think Heup won't cave to fan pressures and strip Milton from having an opportunity to end on a high note while potentially putting an unprepared Nico out.

We saw Spencer Rattler improve at the end of the season. Antjony Richardson started the entire season for Florida despite some struggles. The best thing to do is ride with Joe unless he's injured.

Milton took a few sacks vs Clemson because he didn’t run when he should have. He could even throw it away but just held on too long. It can improve but definitely a concern.

Pocket presence (presents) needs game snaps to perfect. Nothing focuses the mind like that knowledge that opposing pass rushers are coming with bad intent. It's an obvious question for UGA's QB position. Carson Beck has 58 career pass attempts in his three seasons at Georgia. He may know the offense very well, but I'm skeptical when it comes to his current ability to mentally process under game pressure.

I've been seeing you guys occasionally debate if/when Heupel would pull Milton if he struggled, so I took a look at his game pass attempts compared to Hooker (who set the standard I imagine
you're hoping for). HH had more attempts at VT than Milton has in his college career to date (316 vs 296). HH also had more attempts in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons than Milton has in his college career to date (303 and 329 respectively, vs 296). I'm sure Milton's processing speed has improved with a full offseason as QB1, but it also wouldn't be surprising if he continues to process faster as the 2023 season progresses. I obviously know nothing about Heupel's intent, but my guess is he'll give Milton every opportunity to climb that live action learning curve.

Agree with you. I know we gave UGA/UGA fans a lot of slack about Stetson but he was in a similar situation of having to process the game faster which he did as he got more live game experience. (Todd Monken obviously helped in his development as well)

Neither team had anyone to put in the game…. Heup has benched QBs for true freshman before…. I don’t think he will have a quick hook but if Milton can’t get it done then he needs to sit…. I don’t see that happening though.
