My annual elk trip got denied this year. Apparently bad winter and killed a lot of the herd. They cut out of state tags by a bunch.
So I’ll be going to Italy and Croatia for 2 weeks. Starting In Naples, Rome, Florence and then Dubrovnik. Any advice or recommendations from people who have been. I’m excited about rome and the wife is excited for Naples

The Applebee's riblets are next level in Italy.

Did you see Barry Bonds clean?

PEAK Griffey ‘96-‘99 (200+ HR in 4yr Jr)
7.6 WAR, .996 OPS 152+, 1.1 dWAR

CLEAN Bonds ‘90-‘93 (Little Barry Pitt/SF)
9.2 WAR, 1.028 OPS 185+, 1.1 dWAR

Ken Griffey Jr had (3) 8 Win seasons in his career.
Little Barry had (8) 8 Win seasons before swelling.
Never been a proponent of WAR. Seems like something nerds made up to appear smarter. Some great players weren’t a part of winning organizations. Early 90’s Pirates were a machine…even outside Bonds. Mariners weren’t until the middle of the decade.

Applebee's riblets would be equal to or better than Starbucks coffee in Europe imo. (I know it's a joke and Applebee's is not there.)

I really hate and despise the way Starbucks puts a store and big signs at every historical landmark in Europe. The ugly America, the imperialist pig brand, the groovy Seattle colonialist schmucks. It ruins the vibe. Take that sh-t back to a homeless scene in your hometown, bishes!

McDonalds is much classier than Starbucks. McDonalds steps a few steps away from what people are there to see. Starbucks would build directly in front of sites, if they could get away with it. Processed microwave bakery goods and American coffee in litter-friendly fake cups. That's what you want in Paris and Rome?! Wtf, Starbucks!

I just feel that it’s hypocritical….. if you want a clean game then punish all the known cheaters…. Being punished bc you are a more successful cheater makes no sense to me.

During the Homerun chase with Bonds, McGwire, and sosa….. everyone including MLB knew that chances were really good that they were juicing…. Everyone still tuned in and MLB promoted it every chance they had…. They, obviously, didn’t care that it was happening.
Nah…**** that! The MLB Player’s Union under Don Fehr had an undefeated streak in any negotiations and were steadfastly against testing. That fueled open season with cheating. Owners knew it was pointless to fight so they rolled with the noise and the money…until Congress intervened. If the owners were as complicit in the farce, they wouldn’t have been so proactive and aggressive with drug testing and penalties when enabled. If the players could have cycled off with plenty of advance notice, it wouldn’t be a fact currently. The players can soak in their own urine that their union helped pour.

My daughter and I were in Rome last November. I highly recommend Vatican City and St Peter’s Basilica. We took a small group tour (Viator) simply because you can skip the lines. It was well worth it. We enjoyed it more than any other tourist site in Rome.

Great interview. A lot of interesting tidbits, directly stated.

Halzle is clearly intelligent, articulate, focused, dedicated, and with a calm, pleasant demeanor.
Halzle clearly can’t be trusted. He said the staff feels good about the OL. Volnation told me otherwise.

Seriously though, he seems like a really intelligent guy with a great demeanor for coaching

I get it, I do. Bonds is hard to argue against...ive got him at #2, SV!! Oh, yeah, I watched clean Bonds...my brother and I almost burnt down the house whenever Bream scored. I was way more into baseball back then at 15,16,17. Honestly, though, I haven't watched watched baseball in many years. Use to be a Braves fan, going back to Dale Murphy. I'll admit, I don't even know what these newer stats are. I'm still stuck in the Avg HR RBI Hits Runs SB days.

Again, I can only go by what I saw, you'll know the numbers better than I...but, Griffey just looked greater, imo...more graceful than anyone else I ever seen, with some of the greatest power ANY OF US have ever seen. As great as Bonds was with the glove, and he was on a level unto himself, Griffey took it to ANOTHER level from THERE, and made it look easy.

Yeah...The Kid, my friend!!! This should tell you how I feel about Griffey Jr...he's one of the five I wish I could go back and watch play again, along with Manning, Bird, Jordan, and Magic.

I love baseball history and almost every has tried anything they can win….. no matter if it was against the rules…. I have no doubt that everyone throughout history would have done steroids if it was available to them…. I have no issue with the players that juiced at all.
I don’t really have a problem w the players who juiced because…. MLB. They were LOVING the home run publicity, knowing the guys were juiced the whole time but weren’t testing, then want to act indignant and start testing? Nah

MLB shutdown the 94 season and ruined one of the best seasons ever…. I’m sure they fought over drug testing if it was priority…… They didn’t send out the first memo until after congress made steroids an issue in 1990…. They didn’t take action until congress put on a show with MLB players… proactive and aggressive…. Didn’t they start with minor league testing and secret MLB testing?

Just going to throw this on the fire and then go about my day…

Prime Barry Bonds was the greatest hitter who ever lived, steroids or no, and it’s not particularly close.

Y’all have a good weekend!

Nope. Barry sits at 37th on the all-time hits list.

Pete Rose sits at #1.

Greatest "hitter" implies who actually had the most hits. And despite having similar length in career, Pete had over 1000 more hits than Bonds.

When Griffey signed with the Reds he became very injury prone if he would have stayed healthy Bonds record of total Home runs would have been surpassed. Bonds may have had a slight advantage at the plate but on defense he couldn't hold a candle to JR. In the outfield...

Pete Rose was last seen making a bet on the Reds😉😉😉

When you arrive in Naples immediately get a Taxi out of the city to somewhere on the Amalfi coast. Having seen the majority of Italy, it’s a phenomenal country, but Naples would rank near the bottom for me. Young kids pickpocketing, low tolerance for tourists, etc.

Would suggest staying center city in Rome as all the sites are very walkable for a large city.

You're totally bypassing the point. TRYING and not succeeding does not equal cheating. Bonds has the homerun records because he SUCCEEDED. INTENT doesn't qualify. And that he utilized the Clear to hide his usage adds to the crime.

I am going to disagree a little here; IMHO intent does matter

An example: nothing illegal about buying a handgun in Colorado. Nothing illegal about renting a car in Denver. Nothing illegal about sitting on a street corner outside the bank in my neighborhood observing when the guard takes his break

But if I did all three of those things with the INTENT to rob the bank, at gunpoint, and use the car for my getaway... I am going to get convicted of bank robbery

Even if I did not SUCCEED in stealing a dime

Not necessarily about who has the most hits. Bonds had almost 4,000 fewer plate appearances and 1,000 more walks than Rose.
